Robinson > Olajuwon? This one is a classic when it comes to stat-based rankings. The specter of one series — Olajuwon’s epic 1995 Western Conference Finals performance against Robinson and the Spurs — will always hang over any mainstream debate between the two players. But advanced metrics have consistently rated Robinson higher, and RAPTOR is no different. Although RAPTOR thinks the majority of both players’ value came on defense, with Olajuwon’s D grading out slightly higher in their best seasons, Robinson gets the career advantage mainly for his skills on offense. There, RAPTOR says Robinson was routinely worth at least 2 points above average per 100 possessions, a threshold Olajuwon crossed only once in his entire career. In fact, RAPTOR considers Hakeem a below-average offensive contributor for most of the ’90s, aside from 1993 and his championship years of 1994 and ’95. But at least Olajuwon can say he had more career playoff WAR, beating The Admiral 27.1 to 19.6 in that regard.

Cool, you can take David Robinson and his advanced regular season stats and have Hakeem shove his MVP trophy up his ass in the playoffs when winning matters.

They need to come up with a stat that puts Bob Sura in the HOF.

To make it clear, I added the [?!?] to emphasize that this is nuts.

I think it's wise of you to distance yourself from it before tinman came in.

D-Rob had sick regular season numbers and respectable playoff numbers. If I were to guess, he upped his PO game by 10%, which isn't that bad when he had years duking it out w/ Shaq over stats titles.

Dream's thing is Playoffs. Pre back to backs, if the media was like it is today, they'd be b****ing Dream played hero ball or if he's the underdog to MJ..."he had no help".

I'm not surprised of news showing the numbers choose the Admiral, but the numbers here are crunched by damn fools.

In an alternate universe where the Rockets never manage to put enough help around Hakeem to win a title, or they lose one of those razor thin 7 game series, people would look at Hakeem totally differently. Just like in an alternate universe where CP3 doesn't get hurt and the Rockets win in 2018, Harden maybe considered the best player in the NBA right now.

The difference between computers and people is that the former attribute these razor thing wins and losses as toss ups, and fans think its because one person is a winner and the other is a loser.

Btw RAPTOR also put Harden above LeBron these past few years too. Cause they dont deduct Harden for peaking right alongside the Warriors

Of course Hakeem was terrible as a Raptor. Everyone knows that.

Akeem/Hakeem’s career had offensively anemic bookends - as a young defensive player still learning to play, and later as at the end of his Rockets stint /terrible finish with the Raptors. A better measure would be to apply their variables to peak 5 seasons. I’d suspect that would return with expected value.

Shows you that defensive stats aren't part of that equation, or a big enough part.

    Garbage in garbage out.

Robinsons offensive numbers dropped badly in the playoffs. Both points per game and shooting %.

Hakeem was one of the few guys who improved a lot in the playoffs
