LOL I bet Morey never expected this response from a simple tweet. This wasn't calculated on his part. His tweet was likely a visceral response. I'm sure he regrets causing this fallout (but not the sentiment behind the tweet).

CCTV, I'm at a loss for words at how badly this will be received here.

 

China has botched this entire international incident badly. They have magnified the attention and coverage 10 fold not only on Hong Kong but "new" issues like doing business with totalitarian regimes and the consequences. Morey has created new University graduate classes that will deep dive into this incident and everything around it. Only time will tell but he may have even saved lives. Accidental or not, Morey is a hero!

To be frank, just as Trump, CCTV is playing to their domestic audience, ie. "the base". Most of these hardline positions that they take are to roil up nationalism in China.

Hey we can debate whether that it is effective in the long term, but it sure is effective in "leading" the base.

exactly. backing down now because like the 50th most important person in your organization (if that) made one small tweet basically means you have to back down forever on everything.

i'll say one thing for morey, from his playing style preferences to his trading to his studies of referees to his tweets, he damn sure doesn't make it boring.
