Morey just reduced the amount TIllman can sell it for now by hundreds of millions. I'm sure he's taking a big loss now.
That's why you wouldn't sell now. A championship in the next three years coupled with the rapid growth of the Houston market will help re-coup some of the immediate loses faced from a tweet. Houston is potentially going to become the third largest metropolitan in the country within the next ten years. The team has a great front office and will continue to put together a competitive team. There will be an increased amount of national attention on the team because of this situation and we may even gain some segments of fans that were not once there. China was rooting for the Warriors the past few years. Steph was consistently the top selling jersey. It's why Kerr is being a withering corpse on the issue.
If there are owners that don't give a damn because their slice of China pie is smaller than other teams then they are very shortsighted. By allowing China to ban a specific NBA team it would set a precedence that the NBA, it's governing body / owners, etc are stating that an owner (and his franchise) can be left to fend for himself without any support from the league they bought into. The longterm effects of non-action if a team/franchise like Houston gets banned is unknown and should be a concern for ALL owners because of said uncertainity.
While i'm generally opposed to nationalist sentiment or forced patriotism, it would be really nice to go on /r/nba and not have every thread about the Rockets be negative.
The prophecy is true To hell with these non believers don’t ever underestimate the power of the 99ers! @Os Trigonum
if more and more chinese flood to clutchfans and complain the ccp and chinese government .they will ban clutchfans.
China banning the NBA is just the tip of the spear, so to speak. It's going to be followed (and has already) by Chinese companies pulling support for not only the NBA and its teams, but players as well. You remember all those middling players that got Chinese shoe deals and other Chinese endorsements while Yao was here? It will definitely be interesting to observe just how true the predicted financial fallout from this will be.
This is a very naive, childish view on how the world works - particularly in relation to the NBA. I don't really think I have to explain why as its been said in multiple threads from many people already, but if you want a starting point: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/ne...y-s-tweet-may-cost-team-millions-14499593.php
The owners obviously care. The players will care once the salary cap declines due to lost revenues. And genuine nba fans in China care although they can probably still access through VPN. Fans here obviously don't care, it doesn't affect us.
It was going to happen regardless after Huawei, Morey's tweet was an excuse for CCP to lay down the hammer.
I agree that China was probably itching for a chance to hit back hard after the Huawei arrest incident, but that doesn't mean that Morey had to be the one to provide the fuse.
Yup. Morey just add on excuses. They were going to pull out. Of trade talk and now using Morey as excuses to blacklist. It's pay back for Huawei, Morey got caught in the middle
