If it said that views must "align with American values", then they directly point out that American values are better than Chinese ones... They'd rather be indirect, because indirectness is part of Asian culture of communication (per some communication books I've seen/read)

If it was something casual, he would have given a real apology and he didn’t.

I agree with you that he foolishly underestimated the fallout even though history has shown the CCP will not back down.

Yup... complete sell out and throws Morey completely under the bus which isn’t surprising given his background.

Get real, Morey is most likely ******** his pants right now. He's 47 years old and probably was looking at 20 more years at this gig, at close to 8 figure salary setting up his family's children's children's children. If that gets flushed down the toilet over one stupid ass tweet he's going to wake up wishing he was in a concentration camp instead.

BS. He has made millions of dollars. He has numerous other interests he can branch out into. While I am sure he doesn’t want to lose his job, if he were “******** his pants” he would have given a real apology.

Daryl Morey will be fine either way.

If he wasn't ******** his pants he would have left his tweet up instead of deleting it after 30 seconds. None of his other interests (Broadway?) is going to pay him anywhere close to $8mil a year for the next 20 years.

    Talk about getting real...

Morey would be hired TOMORROW by someone else if he was to be let go by the rockets.

Who? Surely not another nba team unless they want to be banned by China too. Have you been paying attention?

It actually looks bad to give a real apology. The NBA also doesn't want to show the world they are fully bending over for the Chinese government, but they want to do business there.

It really is a fine line to walk

First off he has already made tens of millions of dollars and the likelihood of him being a GM another 20 years is remote. If money is all that motivated him, he would have gone elsewhere.

Number two, of course he took the tweet down after it started a fire. No one is saying he WANTS to lose his job. If he were that worried about his job, he would have groveled and given an over top apology. He didn’t and he didn’t even say he was sorry for what he said.

His actions over the last 30 hours are not consistent with someone “******** their pants”.

Are you f**king kidding me? The communist party burned all of Chinese history to the ground during the cultural revolution. If it wasn’t for Chiang Kai-shek smuggling it all to Taiwan it would have been destroyed. Perhaps the communist party should be the deepest scar of Chinese history?

Morey will be picked up by another team who isnt nearly as popular as the rockets in china. Some terrible team will get him and take the backlash believe

If foreign nationalists are going to successfully force our GM who is probably one of the top 3-4 GMs in the league fired over a tweet, I'm done with the NBA. We need to show Tilman and Silver that they need to start caring about the money here in the states and not in a autocratic regime.

    Well exactly.

The core issue is American value is 'better' than the Chinese one but this cannot be explicitly said officially.

    Morey did just that.

Then of course the other side gets upset because nobody would admit their values are worse and it's difficult for the official channels to defend Morey.

It doesn’t look bad for the league if Morey gives an apology On his own. It looks bad if the NBA does... and in fact the NBA apology is stronger than Morey’s.

Silver's entire persona he is trying to build up as a "woke progressive" is going to be seen as fake if he has a hand in firing Morey.

By far the US. The NBA gets most of their revenue from network tv deals.

this isn't a church, it's a business. The NBA often comments on its franchisee's employees, and it could do the same here. I don't believe it will, because it would set a bad precedent, but I don't think the NBA actually cares about right or wrong.

Tilman has no balls, pretty much any owner would hire him

Not to mention baseball and football teams would also have a lot of interest.
