1/ I did not intend my tweet to cause any offense to Rockets fans and friends of mine in China. I was merely voicing one thought, based on one interpretation, of one complicated event. I have had a lot of opportunity since that tweet to hear and consider other perspectives.

2/ I have always appreciated the significant support our Chinese fans and sponsors have provided and I would hope that those who are upset will know that offending or misunderstanding them was not my intention. My tweets are my own and in no way represent the Rockets or the NBA.

Yao should do Daryl a solid and take a photo together like right now. It’d soothe all wounds.

Yao “Remember that credit card commercial I did where the language barrier became something of a comedic schtick? Just think of this incident as a sequel to that. Yo Yao Yo Yao lol hilarious!!”

    Nice apology.

Dignified, polite, precise without really compromising on his morals and opinions.

I pray that it will be enough to pacify the CCP.

They should calm the f. down now, and that should be the end of it.

Most here don't understand that Hong Kong protests/riots is deeply linked to the century of humiliation in Chinese history. Hong Kong's former status as a British colony was due to one of the 'unequal treaties' signed during the century of humiliation when Western powers levered their technologically more advanced armies to force upon the Chinese empire endless amount of concessions, one of which was the port of Hong Kong.

This is perhaps the deepest scar in modern Chinese history.

    exactly.

This apology is in reality a non apology. He doesn't admit a mistake or embarasses himself.

    He has kept his dignity.

But let's hope it is enough.

Great explanation / statement. Do not apologize for your stance on a very important issue. Well done, Morey.

That's not really an apology. Basically I'm sorry you're mad, I'm not really wrong, but sorry for the mess anyhow.

Lets see if this is enough for China to chill the f**k out. Don't think it will be.

Maybe Morey is using his position to willfully stir the pot and force the NBA to take a stand on an issue important to him. Possible? Yes? No? Conspiracy?
