Did she really do that? Or did the conversation change from "hey here's my junk" to "oh **** I just killed a guy what do I do".

Absolutely. The moment she pointed the gun at the victim, and fired that bullet, intent to kill can be inferred.

...the department went out of their way at the time of the shooting to wipe her social media. Lots of reports about why this was done, since it was known she was pretty active on Facebook.

Surprising any of this came up into evidence at all, with what pains were taken to not have it available (at least to the public)...

Oof. After seeing these texts and social media posts, the sentencing will not be kind to her.

Yes, there is anger out there and people were celebrating. No reason to think that's what happened in the jury room. She fit the criteria for murder -- killed with intent where a reasonable person would not have. We'll say how heavy-handed it is when they announce the punishment.

Those things were not presented in the trial phase to determine guilt. They were allowed in the punishment phase. Looks like the jury was not allowed to consider any racial animosity she might have felt when deciding if she was guilty or not.

Tell that to our dumb-asses at the State Capitol.

What. Whut? The jury is handing down the sentence? I've been gone from Texas too long, I thought that the Judge would handle sentencing. Maybe the jury makes a recommendation and the judge gets final say? I'm too far out of the loop on this one.

Kind of surprising in this day and age that so many people continue to post so much on social media. Your words can easily come back to bite you (yes, aware that I'm posting this on a public forum ;-) )

I'm thinking that in Texas the defendant has the right to request sentencing by either judge or jury, but I'm not a law-talking-guy.

Where's @MadMax when we need him?

    Ah. You right.

That's wild. I guess since the judge is a black woman they decided to punt to the jury? Not sure if Tammy Kemp is a known hard-ass.

Either way, her public buttholery is going to come back to bite her so hard.

I predicted less than 10, so I guess I missed it by a day. I'm comfortable with that number.

IIRC murder convicts are not parole eligible in Texas. What you're sentenced to is what you do. There is no "minimum served". It's one of the big dividing lines between a murder charge and a manslaughter charge in the state.

So, 10 years is basically 5 years with good behavior?

Edit: Oh...DonnyMost says she has to serve all 10 years. Ok.
