    I'm shocked they landed on murder. I figured manslaughter was likeliest.

    Oh I figured there was a shot she would walk. Never underestimate a cop on trial.

    Reading the Texas penal code, it seems that this was murder in the strictest sense of the word. She intended to kill Jean when she confronted him.

    The circumstances around why/how she confronted him will likely go a long way to determining whether she gets 5 years or up to life.

    I'm guessing it will be something on the low end.

    The thing is Guyger didn't abuse her power. She made a horrible mistake and is going to pay dearly for it.

    Her supervisors abused their power in how they handled the immediate aftermath of the shooting and they will see no punishment for it.

    So, if you're concerned about crooked cops, this is still a loss.

    This feels like a pretty good argument the judge was trying to make sure the case wasn't overturned later on with the "castle doctrine" talk.
