Not really a fan, so it was only a few years ago when I realized The Cars did not sing that "Here in My Car" song. That was Gary Numan. RIP
Well, hell, of course. I thought that was posted already...or for some reason got posted somewhere in the last couple of weeks. Cars videos and Tom Petty videos were pretty mindblowing back then. And Peter Gabriel. And...
Youtube via you just reminded me of a song I hadn't thought about in years and couldn't have named the band if you gave me 7 tries: Thanks! @bobrek
The more appropriaate question is how did the Cars talk her into doing a music video ... she was already a supermodel. That 18yr old was on the cover of 1984 February SI Swimsuit issue before they met during filming of the Drive video. She was doing supermodeling for 5 more years before they got married.... Got a $6m modeling contract prior to marriage -- #1 contract at the time. so, had plenty of opportunity to change her mind. Spoiler
How much non-game do you have to have to.....No worries, now I'm posting club/ dance songs I love from back then:
Saw The Cars in the late 70’s at the Music Hall just after their second album came out. Good times and a wasted youth. RIP Ric.
Cars at the Summit on 9/11/84: I dig the Don Johnson Miami Vice jackets, feathered hair, and sunglasses in the darkness of the Summit.
Great band and so sorry to hear this! First time I saw them was in the fall of '77 when they were playing clubs in and around Boston. My cousin took me to see them at the Rathskeller (I think they called it the Ratt?) when I was visiting. I was hooked!! Another of the great bands that came out of Boston. Saw them a few times in Houston in the late 70s after that and their shows were always awesome. Always hoped they would get back together (original band) but when Benjamin Orr passed away that ship sailed.
Drive was my favorite You might Think probably Next Magic was the first time I took Notice of them Rocket River
I thought they were done too, but their post-Orr 2012 album was still pretty good. I really dug this song:
Well I have to go with Ocaskek. He was 50, and she was 24 years old and arguably the biggest model in the world at the time, and he looked like Howard Stern's still born brother. That is a pretty impressive pull.... although he loses points for being married at the time he started dropping the hammer on an 18 year old Paulina.... and Paulina left him when he had health issues. He should have stayed with Suzanne.
As a nearly 50 year old man that looks like Howard Stern's grandmother? That is still somewhat impressive ......... when you consider they were together for nearly 30 years. Kind of creepy though too...... she grew up with him dropping the hammer on her.
Having said that....... no one had more game than David Bowie. Before he was famous his friends would send him down to the street to pick up women for group sex and he always came back with a few ladies. As an old friend said "He was our best mate, all our carnal needs were met within minutes and all for the cost of a beer at the pub. David would go in the pub for one beer and come back with treats for us all."
Damn, that is a big loss for music. I loved the Cars sound, different from anything else. Their pop lifted you up, their rock with Elliott Easton on the guitar could shred, and their synth ballads were emotional. Rick admitted the band and his love for making music wasn't the same after Ben Orr died, but now with Rick's death the Cars are officially done. Very sad news.
RiP, Ric. The guy was quite an arranger and composer of music. It sounded simple but he had different layers of simple stuff going on in a complicated way. It would just add another layer after layer. It kept the music really interesting. No wonder he became a solid producer.
