Nope. The man is an Horry clone in so far as showing up in time for the playoffs. And Griz’ alarm ain’t yet set.

I honestly don't care where he goes as long as it isn't a contender. He's had it too easy for too long while our Rockets have battled with inferior talent. Time for him to experience the struggle.

Yeah, I'm being a hater. Which reminds me that I need to change my avatar soon since CP3's fist is no longer a Rocket.

    Haha

Unless Rockets aquire him somehow, then welcome home Iggy, we have always loved you!!!

Not going to hold it against any one trying to get as much as possible, especially at end of career.

I seriously doubt Memphis is gonna hold onto Iggy until January. They certainly wouldn’t play him. They have too many players they’re better off playing

They cant trade Nene until January 15th.

Do you think Memphis really wants to wait that long to get Iggy off their team ?

I don't think this changes anything in regards to the Rockets acquiring Iggy because of the timeline.

That contract was made for trade bait , between Jan15 and the deadline …. but Iggy should be outa Memphis in December.

    tl;dr- Murry did Work...
    Not impressed w/ Iggy tho.

That is also why Nene would accept this sort of contract. He knows that he is going to get waived in order to prevent that second season from guaranteeing, but he is already guaranteed the minimum. He is essentially getting paid for less than four months of work rather than a full season.

It could even be argued that the structure of this contract will motivate the Rockets. As of this moment, the Rockets are around $353,000 below the luxury tax line. Last season, the front office made a furious series of moves at the trade deadline to stay below the tax, but trading Nene's fake salary in exchange for the real salary of another player would push Houston well above that line. If the Rockets are championship contenders, ownership may be willing to swallow that extra expenditure. If they are not, then Houston will likely waive Nene and pocket the savings. No harm, no foul. The Rockets players now know that the team has a method of improving provided the team proves it is worth it.

To tie this all back to Iguodala, the Rockets would need to send out at least $13,748,178 in salary to acquire him with no other players attached. Nene now represents $10 million of that salary, though he can only be traded as of Jan. 15. They could now fill in most of the gap by including promising wing Danuel House, who will make $3.54 million this season. His presence would also likely serve as acceptable asset compensation in the deal, meaning that the Rockets would not have to include a first-round draft pick in the deal. Considering the picks they sent out to acquire Russell Westbrook, that is hugely significant.

The best part? Most of the teams in the running for Iguodala cannot copy this strategy. Doing so would mean keeping the cap hold of a free agent with full Bird Rights on the books this summer. But the Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers all used cap space this offseason, meaning they cleared away all of their unnecessary cap holds.

This situation was a perfect storm for the Rockets. One of their free agents happened to opt-out of a contract that he shouldn't have (Nene would have made around $3.8 million if he had opted-in). He found a more tepid market than he expected, so he wasn't stolen away, and the Rockets never needed to renounce his cap hold to conduct other business. He happened to have full Bird Rights, so they were able to give him this creative contract.

And now, the Rockets have solved the salary matching problem in a potential Iguodala trade. Unless the Lakers or Clippers are willing to trade valuable players to acquire him, they have not. That makes them the favorites in the race to trade for Iguodala during the season.

Give up House, not sure about that one. Good position to be in though, by January we should know if Iggy has something left and if House can be our guy off the bench. We could target other better players too but with Nene’s contract.

Not sure if this is possible under the CBA, but could Morey double down with Shumpert and pursue someone better? House, Shumpert and Nene for a more expensive player. Throw in a first rounder and go for Love?

after the nene contract fiasco the best way to get Iggy is to use the remaining $5.7M of the NTMLE. iggy doesn't want to take less money in a buyout, grizzlies won't offer a buyout unless he takes less, or they will try to trade him to acquire an additional pick. if the rockets offer $5.7M to iggy he can agree to take that much less in a buyout with the grizzlies and still be made whole by the rockets. its an avenue no other contender can offer. we'd still be under the apron so the hard cap won't matter.

Rockets no longer have their NTMLE because of the Nene deal. The deal technically puts us over the cap due to the likely incentives.

did the ruling state the incentives will still count against the cap even though they can't be used in trade? if so I can see the rockets waiving nene after camp and freeing up that money.
