I tried it for a while. Got boring cuz i always won. Sidetracked into sports betting. That got old too since none of the books would take my bets after a while. Now i'm into Jeopardy where I am currently on a 22 day streak worth about 1.7 million. -James
Played a $5 tournament online today, got 4th for $550! =) Not that much, but considering it's over 100 buyins I'm pretty satisfied.
That's really good, man!! I seriously need to work on tournament play. I've really become strictly cash tables lately...
Just checking in with poker, how have you been doing? So I am finally trying tournaments, out of my 2 so far... One was a $30 buy-in, cashed 2nd for $1600 (it was basically crazy add ons and rebuys to jack the pot up and it was just an insane night, got cards when I needed them, and went way up within first 2 hours (unfortunately hit a rock and not even getting hands I'd play in small cash game), but managed to play insane no add-ons or rebuys from me, overall roi on 4 hour tournament is pretty good Unfortunately my cash game has gone to **** the last few weeks but back on track (still positive but was way up till last month), finally back though just some harsh bad beats. Been playing decent amount of cash tables still. My 2nd Tournament last night I got in was $160 buy-in, unfortunately... Went out 20th out of 140 players... Only paid 15 spots, so close... , I needed to basically last 10 more mins... But I'd prefer 1st-5th... For some decent money. I then immediately went to a cash table and basically got my buy in back, so broke even for the night in an hour of $1-2 nl. I probably could have played longer, but it was getting super late and the action left was basically some crazy players, if it was earlier I'd certainly have stayed but would definitely have had to catch a worthwhile hand preflop. So called it, not bad for free poker to see hands/reads but I'd prefer positive night. What I've done so far in my 2 bigger in person tournament experience... (I've played before like small house games and online, but not when you have 100+ players or so in real setting), is try to make moves when it's cheap to get a cushion, don't force it unless that blind is getting out of control, and don't put tournament life on the line unless it's needed or you're certain the odds are really in your favor (like I mean if you're a spot away from being in the money etc and are pretty much guaranteed) and it's not a major hit, probably not worth it unless you're one of the big stacks, no point pushing against some crazy stack if you're about to place ( unless you have the hand). I've seen some guys try to force stuff for no reason. Like in that 2nd place finish I was pretty much small stack at the final table till I switched up play style once I was in the money. I don't think players expected that either, which was nice. Unfortunately I only took out the small stacks, the big stack was so far ahead he could have probably left for an entire round, just a monster stack. Is there any big strategy you've been doing for tournament , or any crazy wins since then? My part above is I start aggressive but not on the line or out and then can coast some if needed. I mean definitely have to make moves if you have the cards (that's pretty obvious, hahah). I just meant since I play quite a bit different from a cash table. And sorry for necro bump, but this place needs more poker.
Although I've never looked at the data, as an observer, my head logic would tell me as a chip leader to play slow and coast given that every player eliminated is cash in your pocket. At that point, they are playing at a higher risk level than you and are likely to lose. I don't know what that really means regarding the winning of a tournament, but it makes compelling sense logically. However, when I do play games of chance, like the slots, my logic is the exact opposite, start slow and bet more and more lines the more I lose to get the big payoff when it does hit. An that has actually worked for me consistently. So I wonder, what is the right strategy.
Going to Vegas in a few weeks for the first time and planning on playing some hold 'em. Not sure if I want to go the cash game or tournament route. I've been to NOLA and played in a few cash games before. Any suggestions or tips? I'll be staying/playing at the Westgate mostly I think.
Hey! Congrats on the score! I've actually managed to win a 10 euro PSKO tournament on the Spanish PokerStars (PokerStars.es) yesterday for 1,100 Euros. Regarding the strategy, I don't really vary my style too much (unless there are some really weak players on the table that would make me apply some exploitative adjustments). Generally I just try to play a fundamentally sound game and put in as much volume as I can to beat the short-term variance of the game. Good Luck at the tables!
Nice win, that's awesome and congratulations! Yeah, my only big variance for me I've noticed in these bigger tournaments is just surviving, like if on the bubble and covered for a decent amount of blinds, I might not put my tournament on the line when I'll be in the money, unless it's great starting preflop hand or I have great hand I blinded into etc. I Just play a little tighter so I make it etc. Anyway, that's a really nice win
If the tournament pays out decent and you're not worried about playing long it can be some nice money, but what I still like about cash games is I can leave anytime. With that said though, some of the bigger tournaments/Turbo tournaments are where the big money is, unless you're playing at like a 5/5+ NL table. On some of those games, a hand of cards can easily get into the thousands for the pot. Regardless, I prefer poker the most since I'm playing other players and not the house. My best advice in a cash game, is make sure you have set up enough time that you can win and wait for the cards to turn if they start out bad, especially since you don't need to worry on blinds, (also don't force hands unless you're trying to bluff). And always try to have a goal in mind (and if after a set amount of time you're even don't force it on your last hand), I see players get way up only to give it all away when they don't leave the table, or they start forcing stuff.
Check out the Westgate O/U for GSW Wins, and report back what it is please. If they are still at 49, the Under might be one of the best futures bets in Vegas, atm. Every other oddsmaker (or analytics prediction) I’ve seen has them no higher than 48.5, with many at 46.5-47.5. Curry is being seriously overrated by California bettors.
you have GS as a non playoff team? that's what you're essentially saying if they win less than 49 with that under
I still play a neighborhood game, we have had people cash in the main event, pretty good game 15 years running. I really miss online poker and poker stars. DD
Has anyone been back to Prime Social since their reopening this past weekend? I've only ever played online poker and never live or any recommendations on one of the poker clubs popping up all over houston.
No it is not. Do your research, YOLO Even 47 has them at 6th place, vs lines of other West teams. The bet is the massive competition is the West knocks each team down in Wins. GSW Wins are overrated at 49, if Westgate still has that line of a few weeks ago. https://www.sportsbookreview.com/betting-odds/nba-basketball/nba-regular-season-wins/futures/
huh? the top 8 teams in this years playoffs had 48 wins at minimum and most of the teams all got better. itll likely be the same exact scenario where you need close to 50 wins to get in the playoffs. betting odds of an over under aren't indicative of what's truly happening in reality and that is, it has taken closer and closer to 50 wins to get into the playoffs in the west. especially this coming season. the west could very well have 6-7 teams at 50+ wins this season. the only question marks really being if SA can hit the 50 mark or hover just around it like they usually do to get in the playoffs and if GS can get over being without klay for over half the season. those numbers for GS are pretty spot on to me. a 1 or 2 game difference is pretty difficult to forecast, which is essentially what you're referring to here
I tried out Lions Poker Palace a couple of weeks ago. Very nice, very professional. Rake is higher than a real casino, of course. BYOB.
I believe the ranges for seat rental at these poker clubs are $10-20 an hour. When I looked up Prime Social last week it's at $16 an hour plus another fee like a day pass. May be wrong about the 2nd fee.
