I think Best Buy will be the lone brick and mortar electronics store soon. As far as nationwide chains go.

I worked there back in 2005 for a couple of years. I do remember them constantly pushing change and wanting to evolve to keep up as others were going out of business. I think there will always be a place where people want to go to get a hands on look at certain electronics, so if they can come close to online prices for comparable items I think they will be okay. They also offer free (and fast) shipping now, I've ordered a couple of small items lately because I couldn't find anything on Amazon that didn't look like a cheap imported knock-off. Like, I don't really trust plugging my $900 phone into a charge cable sold by some company with 3 listings on Amazon but they have 7200 five star reviews.

Fry’s didn’t have thermal paste in stock? Seriously? I knew things were bad, heck, I’ve posted in this thread about how bad that Fry’s had gotten, but I assumed that they’d at least have something like thermal paste. That’s something as common as candy bars in a 7/11, or should be at a place like Fry’s. Damn. Fry’s ain’t long for this world.

The beginning of a swift chain reaction across the country. It really is truly sad...

Haha, in their solder/capacitor/small electronics section they didn't even have solder wick. Employee straight up stated "I'm not sure when/if we'll get more", unfortunately at the Austin store... Since RadioShack is gone and now basically Frys... I'll just order online I guess, just sucks

I'm glad Americans have woken up and realized this rampant consumerism is bad and are thus not buying so much junk anymore.

Article states that the Fry's would of remained open if the lease could of been renewed.

fry's should rethink its business strategy and get with the times, and start selling dope chicken sandwiches.

Renewed at what price, though? If they signed the current lease 20 years ago in Silicon Valley, I am sure the landlord wants something that reflects the current market rent, which is substantially higher than the rent would be in 1999. Fry's does not do the kind of business to justify paying market rent (or anything close to it, I would think).

If there was an electronics store that also sold chicken sandwiches I’d definitely shop there. You might be onto something.

Haha, this is great, then you see the sad state it's in (in the video) . If only they put a Chick-fil-A and a Popeyes in there!!

That renewing their lease talk is all posturing. Carl is right, there is no damn way they could afford Palo Alto market prices doing $200 of sales in a day.

Man, I would love to test out new video games and TV's if Fry's had a popeyes in there. Just imagine all the slick, hygienic controllers and keyboard and mouses

Fry’s should pivot to cameras and accessories, man do I need a solid in town camera store that’s stocked with whatever random item I want or need at any given moment. Like a Guitar Center for photographers, but better.

Given the size of their stores, that's gonna be a lot of cameras.

Passed by the webster location yesterday and saw a pair of cops with their lights on outside so apparently they still have shoplifters.

You’re right... More like a Mars Music for photographers, but better.
