We are a few months away from 2020 and looking back life is not that different except for two major differences: proliferation of smart phones and social media. Everything has to be recorded and curated for the whole world to see. We all, myself included, bury ourselves in our phones most of the free moments in our day. And it’s everywhere. The teens especially are recording their whole lives on social media despite that almost all of these moments should be forgotten and not immortalized. People are constantly being outraged over anything and use the bullhorn of social media to make our world more divided. I am not saying that we were more social before smart phones or that the benefits of having a library, atlas/GPS, phone, TV and MP3 player are not awesome, but it really has fundamentally altered the social fabric across the globe. In fact, I am guilty as I posted this from my phone. What would you want to turn the clock back on?
The world aint stopping. In five years, we will be complaining about how sex robots are leaving the men in this country oversexed and generally worn out, dreaming about how in yesteryear our biggest problem was social media.
I enjoy the benefits of social media and the internet. But I am glad I grew up in the 80's without them.
I would go back and murder Ace of Base before they had the chance to record any songs. And an angel gets it's wings.
“Two major differences”. pfft The proliferation of smart phones and social media has nothing on the proliferation of p*rn. p*rn access is the elephant in the room when discussing societal change!! Haha Like @Deuce says above wrt enjoying the benefits of social media and the internet. That’s true, and also glad I didn’t have access to p*rn at this extreme back in my teens/pre-teens. Back then, every moment of seeing something was treasured and vividly remembered. And we spent great amount of thinking, teamwork and planning to get our next glimpse
I think mankind is generally f'ed due to tech. There is no way to stop it either. Humans will 100% be something all together different at some point in the future.
I'd be interested in experiencing life before the industrial revolution. How different the world and human life was back then is mind-blowing.
