"Tyson Chandler signed a 1 year / $2,564,753 contract with the Houston Rockets, including $2,564,753 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $2,564,753. In 2019-20, Chandler will earn a base salary of $2,564,753, while carrying a cap hit of $1,620,564 and a dead cap value of $1,620,564." https://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/tyson-chandler-2605/

WCS is one of those guys who looks like he should play way better than he does. Maybe the light bulb will turn on eventually and he'll put it together. Usually guys like that don't.

Capela 3.0 Defensive Win Shares and 1.6 Defensive Box Plus/Minus last year, WCS 2.9 and 2.2, respectively.

not only is the cap hit for chandler only $1.6M, but that's how much tilman has to pay as well, with the league subsidizing the ~$1M difference.

    "every penny counts"

so yes, even if morey wanted WCS he would have been too expensive

Maybe they did, but he would've picked the Warriors anyway since he'll probably start there.

Agreed. People see players on lesser teams have a couple of big games and make the analogy that they are as good as, in this example, Capela or better. The teams know the player which is why they didn't give him a huge contract. It's one thing to notice a weakness on your own team and look for improvement but on this board we always seem to see HOFs out there on weak teams that we just have to get and no one else can see the star that we see. I don't get it. We are weak/thin at 3/4. We definitely need help there. The options that are available to us are limited. I am quite happy with Chandler as a backup C and wanted him last year. Nene was done. Clint needs to continue to improve and especially be tougher and more consistent on boxing out and hammering the boards. Sometimes he is a beast under there and sometimes a kitten. I put a lot to it as game awareness. At the start of the games when he is getting his lobs he is on the hunt and ready to kill. As games wear on his energy level and awareness wanes. It is energy management and maturity that he needs to improve.

If he was on the Rockets, dude has potential.

If he isn't on the Rox, what a loser. ;):D

He was like lightning in a bottle when he played in college and everything he was doing then should translate to now. He was supposed to be the next defensive stopper that could anchor as one of the league’s best for this generation. He was supposed to be a defenseman of the year candidate annually. Now he plays little to no defense and complains about not get touches. That is location, location, and location —> he is not buying into where he is at all. IF he were a Rocket, Harden and Westbrook would feed that man so many cookies that he would remember to play defense almost out of obligation and then his success would build from there. Jon Lucas could also help unlock his potential. Being in a winning atmosphere changes most people. Everything is within him —> he just needs a place to let it out. He may have found it with the GSW and Green is there, too, taking some pressure off him. I expect an All-Star like performance from him for the rest of his career. His signing was huge for GSW and him personally, I wish he was a Rocket in the worst of ways.

Pretty sad that a team with Harden (30), Gordon (30), Westbrook (31), Green (33) and PJ (34) in the rotation....need more 'veteran' locker room guys.
At some point this team needs an infusion of youth, length and athleticism....not just adding 37 year old centers like Chandler, and 35 year old wings like Iggy...

He is better than looney.. His potential is top 5th best center in the west.
Chandler has not been playable since December 2018.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to take chandler unless it’s after July 5.

    1. Well first of all Sacramento is the one who used up a lotto pick for him, billed him as their Cousins replacement and they dont even want him back at the minimum, what does that say about WCS? Obv there is some problem with the kid otherwise Sav woulda kept him.

    2. Locker room presence and chemistry is important, we dont have time to babysit a potential cancer we need all the focus on winning not on possible distractions. If WCS is out there clowning around or complaining about the 5-10 mpg he has as Capela's backup then I can see WB laying the law down on him and you dont need that kinda drama.

    3. We dont know if Morey made a move on him at vet min I'm sure lots of teams wanted WCS, maybe he wanted to go to GSW where he only has to beat out Kevon Looney vs the Rox with an up and coming CC.

In short there are a lot of reasons why WCS didnt get signed. Unlike somebody like you who probably spent all of 2 mins thinking about it I'm sure Morey and co did their homework and had reasons why Chandler is on the squad and not WCS. It's their job after all.

Have you seen WCS play? He has a very overinflated opinion of his playing skills. He thinks he has been grossly underutilized and that his lack of success has been a result of being drafted by Sacramento. He’s been rumored to have a poor attitude and work ethic. This is coming from the Bay Area media so take it for what it’s worth.

The Warriors took a flyer on him because they had no choice and it made sense. They probably will be the 5-8 seed and know that they won’t be a title contender. If he works out they look great and if he doesn’t they can semi tank for a year. They get to sell to their fans that they took a big swing getting Russell and WCS and due to the injuries they came up short but look how valiantly Steph and Draymond played.

Honestly I would rather have Chandler. If I’m being honest I would take a 90 year old Marcus Camby over WCS right now. In a year or two my opinion might change but I have seen enough brain fart moments from WCS that wants no part of him in the rotation.

Morey is unable to sign WCS.

WCS is a much better player than today’s chandler, who is unplayable in playoffs.
