I don't think anyone would have predicted all the twists and turns in this case. It isn't something most people would expect.

HOUSTON - Since the deadly Harding Street drug raid, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo has spoken highly of his special investigations unit, which is handling the investigation into that raid.

On Wednesday, KPRC2 Investigates discovered one of those officers was relieved of duty.

Angel August was relieved March 13, but officials didn't provide much insight into why she was let go. August was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

Authorities said August was one of the first members of the special investigations unit to be notified that four officers were shot and Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nichols were killed.

Records indicate August titled the offense report "Justifiable homicide -- Unfounded murder."

August was also assigned to the Homicide Division.

Acevedo hinted at August's situation last Thursday at City Hall but has yet to respond to KPRC2's requests for a comment.

The Houston Police Officers Union said it will defend August, who had been with the department since 2011.

The media is straight up ignoring this. The investigatting officer is relieved of duty? Its rare the officers involved in shootings are relieved of duty seems like.

Someone had to be scapegoated. He's no saint either so it is what it is. I've been waiting on an update about this for a minute.

HPD Chief Acevedo says officer-involved shooting videos aren't being released to protect victims' families from more pain

"Once these videos are released, they go on these websites for generations of families to see."

Ogg is announcing 15 new charges in harding street raid

Ogg is announcing additional charges against Goines, Bryant, as well as supervisors: Sgts. Clemente Reyna, Tommy Woods and Lt. Robert Gonzales.

She is also announcing a charge against Hodgie Armstrong, Goines' old partner.

Said these charges came after officers "lied repeatedly" and that "rules were intentionally cast aside"

The murder of these two people and the rampant corruption within the HPD doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves. I know there is a lot going on right now. But damn, these two people were just sitting in their house not bothering anyone and then there lives are over in a matter of seconds.

I think we need to rebuild HPD from the top to the bottom.

Grand jury indicts 6 more HPD officers in botched drug raid

With the second anniversary of the botched drug raid on Harding Street looming, a grand jury has indicted six more officers, including one for murder, in connection with the deadly police operation.

To date, 12 total officers, both former and current members of the Houston Police Department, have been charged in the Jan. 28, 2019, raid that killed Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas.

According to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, Felipe Gallegos became the second officer in this case to be indicted on a murder charge. Gallegos' first-degree felony charge is for Tuttle's death. He faces up to life in prison.

The other five officers who were indicted in the case face counts of engaging in organized criminal activity resulting from the investigation into the botched raid. The officers indicted on Monday were:
    • Oscar Pardo - (HPD) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, to wit: Aggregate Theft by a Public Servant ($30,000 or more but less than $150,000) and Tampering with a Governmental Record (1st degree)
    • Cedell Lovings - (Status Unclear) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, to wit: Aggregate Theft by a Public Servant ($30,000 or more but less than $150,000) and Tampering with a Governmental Record (1st degree)
    • Nadeem Ashraf - (HPD) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, to wit: Aggregate Theft by a Public Servant ($30,000 or more but less than $150,000) and Tampering with a Governmental Record (1st degree)
    • Clemente Reyna - (No longer HPD, retired) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, to wit: Aggregate Theft by a Public Servant ($30,000 or more but less than $150,000) and Tampering with a Governmental Record (1st degree)
    • Thomas Wood - (No longer HPD, retired) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, to wit: Aggregate Theft by a Public Servant ($30,000 or more but less than $150,000) and Tampering with a Governmental Record (1st degree)
According to Ogg, the newly indicted officers had been involved in a long-term scheme to steal overtime from the city.
