The defense absolutely dominated that game 3 picks. Baker was seeing 22 guys out there.

    Watson was Watson
And d-hop was doing d-hop things
And I think Lamar had a good game as well

Reading this thread makes me feel like I'm listening to callers on 610.

    • He's a pass-catching back. Measuring him based on rushing yards is ignorant.
    • Football, of all sports, is so much less about stats than it is about doing the little things. For a RB this is pass protection, and I am assuming he is solid in that area otherwise he wouldn't have made it this far in the league.
    • The only reason he was 3rd on the depth chart is because they drafted a RB high last year, and signed an all-pro caliber back ahead of him. They also have a new HC where it's not uncommon to shake up the roster.

Texans needed a strong, physical rb that can run between the tackles like Jay Ajayi or Jordan Howard.

I’m not a fan of this trade. I don’t see why people are so excited about Duke Johnson.

They gave up too much for him, especially when you consider Jordan Howard was traded for a 6th round pick.

Once again, I love this trade.

Now we just have to throw the damned ball more.

Exact opposite of what we need.

We don't have the OL for a power run game.

We need utility backs who can catch and pass pro.

We have one of the worst play callers in the NFL. Maybe this year will be different

I look at it this way... Daryl Morey is constantly trading away 1st rounders for potential help in a push to the WCF/Finals, but (for the most part) all of those picks have been lottery protected to some degree.

This, to me, is their "lottery protection" of a top 3 overall pick that the Texans would have to give up based on "performance". If the kid is good AND healthy, of course he's gonna get more run. If he's bad and basically contributes nothing (due to injury or just plain sucking ass) just sit him for 6 games out of the final half and be done with him at the onset of the upcoming FA period.

If anything the clause is a plus not a minus here.

I'm trying not to think ahead to when BOB will inevitably misuse his personnel.

If this guy excels at one thing I trust BOB to use him for something else.

You could knock me over with a feather. In the D'onta thread I suggested a Duke (like others here) move but concluded it would never happen. Based on past Texans moves, I expected one or two washed up RB's with a bow on top instead, I agree a 4th/3rd is a little high but Duke is proven, young and under contract for the next few years. Plus, Warren Sharp likes him and that dude knows his sh*t. Throw in all the demand the Texans take this year seriously, I applaud the move.

We can bet that he will not get utilized properly.
Hope his down hill running is strong........

This is why you don't pay top dollar for a player based on need.... you start to show your hand and get looked at like weak prey to the actual professionals.

Duke is a good player (if he's utilized correctly) but he's not worth a 3rd rounder in my book. Regardless of our drafting history.

The irony of this is that they will continue to try to pound the ball up the middle with Miller, where I thought for years they needed to get him outside more. But with our personnel and offensive line, you're better off using more of the short passing game instead of running often -- hit Coutee, Johnson, and the TEs for 4-5 yards at a time when you need it, and when they start to sit on that you have an option for Deshaun to look downfield for Fuller or Nuk.

    Hahaha.

    Fast forward 8 weeks.

1st and 10: Lamar Miller runs up the middle for 3 yards.
2nd and 17: after holding penalty on offensive line, Watson completes to Coutee for 8 yards.
3rd and 9: Watson checks to Duke Johnson, 4 yard gain.
    4th and 5: Punt

This looks like a fair deal to me. D'onta tearing an achilles is the event that caused the need. The Texans thought D'onta was coming back strong at the time of the draft. That's why they didn't draft a back. They did make good efforts in the FA market and you never know who the next Arian is. But coaches on the hot seat can't just hope something works out, if a proven commodity is available you need to secure it. And the team that has the surplus knows how bad you need it, so the price goes up a little.

Be glad Texan fans, this is good news.

Hey, who needs a GM if you don't have any picks?

He is one of the best, if not the best receiving RBs in the NFL. He is going to be huge for the Texans.

Good compliment to Lamar Miller...But i think...there is going to be real competition for that starter position now.
