Sergio Llull 'not closing the door' on Rockets, NBA

I Llulled hard.

 

His success could open the gate for more Spanish players potentially joining. Spain is a major market talent wise.

They are good at soccer and b-ball.

This is just some utopian thinking, not going to happen.

But his basketball carear is closing? LOL

 

I actually think it is quite natural. It's like you'd been asking a girl out for years and she turned you down every time. You finally gave up and moved on. Now she's 10 years older and doesn't look so hot anymore, and suddenly she texted you, "Maybe I'll consider going out with you next month after I break up with my current boyfriend." You'd have the same reaction like a lot of posts here.

 

Somebody has already said this in the thread but...

"Sergio is not closing the door on the NBA....the NBA has already closed the door on Sergio"

Yeah, the building blocks are already in Place on the Rockets. There was a time he could have been a viable running mate to James Harden. Now, he is nothing more than potential depth on an already deep team.

Kudos to Lull for sticking with his guns and playing in Spain, for I recently read that Spain is rated #2 in FIBA behind the US team. I’m sure he has inspired many youth in Spain and Europe, they got to see NBA talent choose to play in front of them instead of a TV across an ocean.

 

He had his chance, and he potentially lost out on a max contract.

 

I defended him when he cared about lifestyle more than winning. But F him we don't need him now, that's life.

Interviewer: I wanted to ask you about Mirotic, but not about his resigning. Many times, people has spoken about Llull not adventuring into the NBA. People like Navarro in his day, or Mirotic decided to come back. In a way this means that you were right to stay on a winning team instead of stumbling in many franchises?

Llull: Nobody hast to tell me I was right. These are personal decisions. This was a decision I took at one time, and the chance of NBA is still there. That is a door you can never close. But I am happy at Madrid, and it is where I want to be, winning titles to keep playing and enjoying basketball for many more years.

Interviewer: So, we should not consider this door closed.

Llull: No, no, no. In fact, I appreciate the interest that Houston has for me every year, and that they respect my decision, because at no point have they ever pressured me. They have always been very respectful, they have accepted my decision, and right now I am focused on the national team.
