I remember Morey was ecstatic getting him at the 14th spot. He said PatPat was #6 on their list.

True Rockets legend. A consummate professional. I hope he retires a Clipper.

Do you even know what getting bought out means? It's literally the opposite of getting sent out in a trade.

The fact that you use "of" instead of "have" shows you have bigger things to worry about than Tillman's cheapness.

I know the difference between a buy out and a trade. My argument is that the Rockets "could have" taken Patrick's salary back in the Westbrook trade if the Thunder were giving him away for free.

We "could have" used Patrick's salary for a mid season trade.

The point is what trade would be ON if OKC resorted to buying ON out? Pretty sure OKC tried to find a trade for him as well but they had to resort to buying him out meaning they could ON find a trade partner.

If Rox took Patterson in a trade what makes ON so sure they could ON traded him away when OKC ON able to do so?

I'm speculating, but I am sure having a small expiring contract like Patrick's to trade during the trading deadline would be valuable. I don't think it is far-fetched for me to have this thought. The Rockets could have asked OKC to include Patrick in the Westbrook trade and it would of cost OKC $0. Instead they bought him out which cost them money to do so.

I understand that Patrick is no longer the player he once was, but it would of been well worth the risk for the Rockets to take on his contract and see if he could be productive for this team. We do not have a ton of size and Patrick could have fit a need for a big with shooting ability and good defensive instincts. If he didn't work out (or even if he did) he could have been part of a small or larger midseason trade.

All speculation on my end, but for a team that no longer has flexibility, including Patrick in the Westbrook trade would have provided some flexibility mid-season.

Patterson stinks but the Rockets don’t even have a backup PF and are rolling out a 47 year old as the backup center. Having a warm body that can play both positions and act as salary ballast in a future trade would be extremely useful.

Tilman is just cheap and won’t spend the money, continuing to waste Harden’s prime.

Don’t give him your money; he doesn’t deserve it.

In hindsight, it was a great pick from a mostly garbage field.
