Why are so many Republicans bailing?

Are most of them moderates like Hurd and Amash?

For all the jabbering about Dems moving left and alienating the center, the Republicans sure seem to be the ones who have conducted a voluntary and involuntary purge of their moderates over the last two years.

I think it’s more about the primaries from the hard right honestly. The folks leaving are from Ruby Red districts for the most part. Most don’t want to kiss ass for a year to Trump to keep their seat.

Actually think about the mental gymnastics Tim Scott has to perform when he looks himself in the mirror.

I assume it's something like "well if i quit this ****, an openly racist white guy us probably going to take my place....so I'll change the clan from within..."

"The GOP isn't racist. Black people are just too dumb and follow anything that gives them free stuff" - person who gets angry when you call them racist.

This seat is a very likely pick up for the Dems in 2020.

There is no place for moderates in todays GOP. Take another listen to the Mueller hearing. You can't be an R and ask honest questions about protecting America.

Government is broken. When you're in the minority party, there's literally nothing to do - the leaders of both parties make all the deals and you just fall in line. This is especially true in the GOP right now where anyone not supportive of Trump is a pariah, but it's true on the Dem side too. You see it in the Senate where so many Senators are trying to run for President and so many of the top recruits are declining to run.

Amash is the furthest thing from a moderate. He helped found the freedom caucus and is a true believer in it. He's a legit libertarian - while others of the brand like Rand Paul have sold out to Trumpism, he just wasn't willing to do it. The GOP stopped caring about deficits/etc, so he no longer fits in. I don't agree with basically anything he believes, but I respect him for staying true it to it even when it became inconvenient.

    Off topic but...

This was assumed there was new info from the hearing - “many more countries developing capability to replicate what the Russia have done”. I wished he followed up with who are those countries (even if Mueller likely can’t answer). And have there been any indication of them interfering or planning to interfere in our election?
