The Greinke to Astros discussions started hours after we were eliminated from the playoffs by Boston. The Astros and Diamondbacks discussed Greinke a lot during the winter (I posted on it) and at the end of the day there were financial concerns by both clubs. The topic was again discussed in the week or two before the deadline (I posted it) and then they stopped talking. I thought it wasn't going to happen because I heard zero on Greinke the last day or two. Since then Luhnow said that the discussions resumed 30 minutes before the deadline (which makes sense). It just feels like a situation where the two teams fit really well and both were highly motivated, so it happened.
Hear things like this a lot about trades, and it doesn't make sense to me for this type of trade. The Greinke trade looks like a standard consolidation trade in which one team gives up longer term, more risky value for short term value, but with much more guaranteed money. It seems both teams should have been highly motivated to make deal. I wonder how many mutually beneficial trades fall through the cracks because one or both teams are searching for the white whale of trades.
Astros were talking to the Dbacks about Ray. The price was really high and Luhnow thought about and said why not get Greinke for that kind of package? Beer was the final piece to push it over the top. Crane said do it. Done deal. That's my.... guess
Good stuff @Nook ! Did you have insider info relayed to you or just info posted? Also, any info on the other trade rumors? Madbum or even Archie Bradley? Seemed that's were the rumors were leaning to.
I've been asking for a starter and a reliever for a couple of months now. Some people told me I was crazy. So, there's that.
Meh. Not really. He may be a potential option next year with Chirinos/Machete both FAs, but not this year. As a side note, it's pretty telling that LAA chose Stassi over LuCroy, too.
Does anyone else see Reddick as being a potential casualty this summer? Could save 13 million and would have Jake/Tucker to fill the void.
I’d guess the cost of adding them in was more than Fisher/Kemp. The 1 for 3 Fisher deal was the most headscratching deal of the deadline. When I heard Fisher for Biagini, I thought it was a decent deal for a cost controlled reliever for a guy who was ultimately going to need to find corner OF time on a team with Brantley, Springer, Kyle Tucker, Yordan, and Myles Straw through at least next season. Sanchez made it even more interesting... and then they threw in a prospect.
