The next order of business for Morey and the Rockets is the decision whether or not to extend Eric Gordon's contract. Gordon will become an unrestricted Free Agent after this season with the ability to leave.

    Do the Rockets extend him?
    Do the Rockets trade him?
Do the Rockets do nothing and just go into the season with EG?

And how much of a factor will Tilman's influence play a part in what Morey does?

Speaking of extensions, Portland just extended CJ.

My guess: They'll wait until the trade deadline to see if they can flip that expiring for something of greater value.

If that doesn't happen, they'll start negotiating an extension, but in a low-ball fashion like they did with MDA. "Well, let's be real. You've been a starter in less than half the games since you joined the team..."

Feels like if they want to extract maximum value for EG they should trade him this summer instead of the trade deadline. The other team only gets a quarter of the season and EG could walk on them too. How much could you really get back at that point?

    Extend him.
Knowing Tilman, he'll trade him for another expiring or just let him walk.

Tilman nutlickers will say "Good decision, right move. Paying Gordon/what he got from [Team X] was too expensive. We just signed [minimum free agent] for 1/10th of the cost and can get similar production."

why would we want to trade away our chances of a title run? that's what trading EG at the deadline means. If we pay him, he'll stay. Isn't this really just about whether or not Tillman pays up?

Trading Eric Gordon is a bad idea. Just pay him instead. We need versatile shooters that are bought into what we are trying to do. You aren't gonna find a better one than Eric Gordon.

I have a thread: Trade Gordon = Mistake

If Tilman really doesn't like to pay luxury tax, then deal him/First for Myles Turner (PF, age 23, 38.8% from the three).

17.5 million a year. Total $70 Million Dollars.

Anyone else at free agency is minimum salary, undrafted or two way.

Let him play freely. He is still our 3rd best player at his best.

I would think by now that the Rockets have a very good idea of what Eric Gordon's value is on the open market. There's not much more to learn. Now team needs can change and an opportunity might arise (as the Westbrook trade did, for those who call it an opportunity), but otherwise, they should extend him.

It's a tough call because he's a chief piece if an opportunity opens up at the deadline, but he's 30, matches up with the stars timelines, can shoot, defend and knows the system well. It will be difficult to do much better.

Exactly, not sure you can bring in another player that fits like a glove and a great value.

For the record, last summer there were reports Morey talked extension with Gordon and Gordon didn't want to do it. BUT, this summer Gordon went on record with Feigen that he would be willing to sign an extension. The devil is in the details of course.

Extend him. EG can win you playoff games, weve seen it. He can also go cold but really thats all shooters. He's only worth trading for an all star level player.

its pretty apparent the rockets aren't willing to pay EG what he's looking for as far as salary wise. like clutch said you already know what you're getting from EG at this point. its not like hes some developing potential young talent

With his scoring ability and decent defense, he makes a great addition to the 3 guard lineup. With Harden, Westbrook and Gordon, I'd say that's a pretty lethal lineup. I hope they extend him, but i'm not sure what the FO thinks he's worth. I'd say if CJ got 3/100, he's at least worth 3/60.

Let's say you EXTEND Eric Gordon. He is making 14M this season.

What would the YEARS and DOLLARS be for a fair extension?
