ROCKY VII? Sylvester Stallone Is Looking To Make A Rocky-Focused Sequel; Reveals Story Concept While Creed and Creed II provided resurgence for the iconic Rocky Balboa saga, Sylvester Stallone is still up from more, planning a Rocky-centric sequel set apart from Adonis' story . . . When Creed II hit theaters last year, many fans felt as though it was a perfect capper for the whole Rocky franchise. Rocky had reunited with his son, and Adonis had just met his firstborn, an ending which could have served as a very heartfelt close for the eight film series. But it seems as though Stallone has much more up his sleeve, and is already planning to meet up with his producers on a Rocky focused sequel. In an interview with Variety, Stallone, who received an Oscar nomination for his turn in Creed, talked about his lack of ownership with the Rocky property. He went on to talk about his "timely" sequel, which focuses on Balboa and a new immigrant fighter. Here is how he described the sequel: Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely. . . Do you tell someone that you just met in the street who’s struggling and homeless to get out, or do you take him in? If you take him in, you’re in trouble. He went on to say that the sequel has the potential to be fast-tracked.
There was some funny clip of Rocky VVIIXX or whatever where he falls into a pile of dust. This is the closest I could find.
We just finally saw Creed II last night, and enjoyed it maybe a bit more than the first Creed. Also was a perfect sendoff for the Rocky character, passing the torch to Adonis and reconnecting with his family. I surely hope Sly just lets Rocky go though, aside from cameos in any future Creed movies. His character really has no new ground to tread, and this story concept sounds too relevant to the point of possible pandering.
Generic Sports movies seem to have passed their ship for the most part, due to our inability to suspend belief, but they have not injected time travel yet. Think it will take a lot of creativity or buddy building for a sports movie to really resonate these days. Doable, but it's gonna take a really talented team to put together a winner.
