Boris Johnson is bringing the heat with his new leadership buddies over at the EU. He has apparently called Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, Jean Claude Junker and presumably others to deliver the message that the only acceptable agreement was one with the backstop entirely removed. UK on course for no-deal Brexit as Johnson rejects EU agreement Johnson’s spokesman said there were no talks with the EU scheduled, and that if they happened it must be “clear what the basis for those discussions needs to be” – a message the new PM then delivered personally to Angela Merkel. According to No 10, Johnson told the German chancellor in a phone call on Friday that while he would seek a deal, the “only solution” involved entirely scrapping the backstop, and that in the interim the UK must prepare for the prospect of there being no deal. On a visit to Birmingham on Friday, Johnson tried to scotch rumours that he was preparing for a general election, saying he would “absolutely not” call for another vote. The prime minister said: “The British people … don’t want another electoral event, they don’t want a referendum, they don’t want a general election. They want us to deliver.” So, no general election and no point even considering any agreement with a backstop in it, as Theresa May's clearly does. He pronounced that deal officially dead during his opening remarks to Parliament yesterday, by the way. Actually, I would expect that Boris and the Tories might be willing to agree to a backstop for a fixed period of time, maybe a couple of years, as a compromise position. But it looks like Boris is going to try to make the EU leaders ask him for that, rather than the other way around. This is a much smarter approach to negotiating a deal like this than the one that Theresa May took. All that being said, Brexit with no deal is still the most likely outcome here.
Run oh!!! A sternly worded letter!!! It would seem the clock is ticking moreso for Johnson than the EU.
The Irish PM said in an interview that the matter of the reunification of Ireland will be set on the table if the Good Friday agreement is broken. He said, that The Republic will not set plans for it yet because it will be seen as an act of provocation but he said that if there is no deal, then they will. It is so nice to see after Great Britain has divided so many nations for their own benefits, to finally be on the weaker diplomatic side. With the EU behind its back, and having broken the UN law, they won't have an argument to deny a referendum. It's not up to him if there is a general election or not. No amount of rhetoric is changing the reality. It takes only two Tories for him to lose his job. And there are many who have already publicly said they will do so.
Maybe Scotland will break away as well. England does not need those two other parts of the British kingdom anyway really.
The only reason they didn't break away with the previous referendum was because Westminster told them that if they left they would be kicked out of the EU. Now that they will be thrown out against their will anyway, the SNP is already organising a new one. England can keep Wales.
The example isn't backwards, the US auto sector is much larger. You used it as an example in your own argument. The UK doesn't have higher food standards, that's propaganda fear mongering. The UK doesn't have to make any demands. They just have to simply lower whichever tariffs they want with the US. They will have no need to tariff things the EU wants them to to protect the inefficient continental vested interests anymore. The main negotiating will be done between each government and their domestic lobby groups.
which time period is the SNP not organizing a new effort for Scottish National Independence? They can organize all they want, not happening. and they lost significantly.
Boris Johnson is apparently not messing around, as every home in Britain will get a leaflet to prepare for No Deal. Every home in Britain will get a leaflet to prepare for No Deal TV ads and leaflets are being produced to ensure every family and business is geared up to leave the EU on October 31. PM Boris Johnson has ordered the move as he cranks up planning for a No Deal exit. Last night an insider said: “This is all part of sensible planning for the unlikely event of the EU refusing to offer a new deal. He believes there is nothing to fear from leaving without a deal — but it would be nothing short of folly if we failed to keep the public fully informed.” Leaflets will give advice on imports, travel and taking pets abroad, medicines and food supplies and warn against stockpiling. Officials have also begun work on a No Deal website. It is on, fellas.
The tide has apparenly turned, as notoriously outspoken Remainer Jamie Oliver has changed his mind, and now finally backs Brexit: Remainer Jamie Oliver finally BACKS Brexit saying he ‘believes in democracy’ - ‘Move on!’ REMAINER Jamie Oliver has changed his views on Brexit, announcing Britain should “get on with it” because he now “believes in democracy” after previously blaming the UK’s departure from the EU for the colossal collapse of his restaurant empire. The multimillionaire Brexit-bashing TV chef gave a candid interview with The Times after the closure of 22 of his eateries and 1,000 jobs having been lost that saw him continue to voice concerns over Brexit before reasoning that democracy should be carried out. He said one of his concerns is a future trade deal with the US and the subsequent risk of the UK opening its floodgates to genetically modified crops post-Brexit. He said: “I think that hormone use and genetically modified crops are really not OK. Europe doesn't have any of this.
Right... so the larger sectors with more powerful lobby/trade groups won’t be making the concessions... The U.K., if the US keeps it nationalist slant, will be the one making the concessions to get a trade deal with the US. The U.K. has different standards on GMOs, hormone and antibiotic meat, etc than the US so perhaps you need to educate yourself.
When the British Hollywood types start switching sides, you know the momentum is very strong in favor of Brexit.
Lol. “Very strong”. Still seems split. I suppose the incompetence of Brexit has produced a lot more “f&ck it” sentiment.
