Like I'm gonna let ESPN tell me how to think or how to perceive someone..,..please. Why doesn't Tweety pie go back and run the Suns along with that owner who has run them into the ground. Rockets have one of the highest winning percentages over the last decade, the only thing missing is a title and only one team wins that every year. They hate what they don't understand,.
ESPN already controls what the majority here think anyways If a tree falls in the forest , it doesn’t happen unless it’s on first take @Os Trigonum
I don't buy what ESPN is selling typically. And I don't know if Tillman is unsophisticated, or even what that means exactly, but I have to say I kinda miss Les right now. If Westbrook was a DM move, or even a JH move, then I'm good. I may not be sold on it yet but I'll trust DM or JH. But I have this fear, and some have reported, that Westbrook is a Tillman call. That DM was mandated to make it happen and that makes me a little worried.
He bought the team on credit (Les lent it to him) and he’s a notoriously shrewd business man who doesn’t pay his bills. He also likes seeing himself in the press and is overtly emotional. Used to getting his way and always being the biggest personality in the room. Wouldn’t call him a joke but Steve Ballmer he is not. No ones perfect though. Dolan is pretty bad and the Buss kids get a free pass from the media all the time. Cuban basically ran a frat house of an organization for a while. Anyone who knew of Tillman had reservations and those have so far rung a little true. His true test as an owner will come post Harden.
Meh. Seems like that was a dumb conclusion on espn’s part, but whatevs. Fertitta does need to start thinking about taking a step back though. I don’t want an owner that buys at highs and sells at lows or overrules his hired management. I think the Russ get was driven by Harden, but if Harden hadn’t, I’m unsure Fertitta doesn’t do this just to increase revenue.
Fixed for you. Breaking News ESPN finds a new way to talk crap about the Rockets which actually is TRUE.
When you're arrogant enough to write a book called "Shut up and Listen" you are going to come off as slimy. Let alone the fact that he is dense when it comes to public relations. look at this example: https://pilotonline.com/business/consumer/article_3e7ab62d-6c14-5325-bea2-c3e0233857c9.html
It's not similar at all. For one, D'Antoni is a good coach, but he is going into a possible lame duck season and I'm not sure he even has a full staff yet. Instead of allowing Applewhite to go into a lame duck season, and letting him find two new coordinators from a shallow, low-level pool of candidates (who would likely be there for one year), they let him go and gave Dana Holgorsen a top-25 salary and the largest annual budget in the program's history, more than any other "G5" school and lot of "P5" schools. And regarding Trek3's comment that Tilman's record at UH is irrelevant here - I disagree. With Applewhite, Tilman and co. made the common "continuity" error of coaching hires, but the major concern was he erred on the side of relative frugality. When he saw this was a failed strategy, they quickly changed course and poured money into the program to hire a competitive coaching staff. He learned from his mistakes and changed. That's something that could happen with the Rockets, if the team fails this coming season. Have to remember he's only been owner for two years. I think he'll continue learn and get the hang of it.
well when you go from rock bottom to respectable literally, its not exactly that crazy tilman and UH wanted some kind of continuity going with applewhite internally, hoping their success would somewhat stay relevant
This isn't a Tilmanism, it's an industry thing to fight against minimum wage. It's pathetic, but it's not unique to him and has nothing to do with him being sophisticated.
I get where you are coming from , but he could have made that coaching move because it makes him more money sooner . If UH supporters balk at applewhite being given another shot it may be in Tilman's best interests to bring in a new coach to appease the big UH donors ... plus maybe the coach makes a huge difference and program gets better . With MDA ... it's not like bringing in a new coach is gonna cause season ticket prices to jump 20 percent due to increased demand . It's simply a question of what's better for the team
Yep but Les got us Morey who put pieces together to build a championship roster. 2 yrs ago we were so close and ready. Tillman so far has proven he is only concerned about paying back his loan from Les and threw that chance in the garbage to avoid the tax. Just because Les wasn't a great owner doesn't mean Tillman is any better. The food at any landry's is bellow average at best and the Golden Nugget Casinos are Waffle Houses/ super 8 motels with gambling. I have yet to see any sign that he is truly willing to spend money on any of his businesses. I understand your need to bash Les... but don't make Tillman out to be any better. One Douche inherited our team from the Turd Sandwich.
