Dieng/Covington for 2020 1st, Shumpert ($9.1 million), Hartenstein and NG guys makes the Rockets much better (if Covington is healthy) and it’s a reasonable trade for both teams.

    Brick/Harden
    Harden/Gordon
    Covington/Gordon
    Tucker/House
    Capela/Dieng

Definitely championship caliber. Of course, Tilman would never pay a dime in LT let alone the bill Covington/Dieng would bring. Too bad.

This is where you hope that Daryl Morey's analytics team can get with Russ and really show him where he thrives.

Retrofit him with a shock collar that delivers a nice zap whenever he shoots from the right side or above the break as well as whenever he pulls up for an off balanced J? :D

So....any idea when this is going to be OFFICIAL like a press release from the team?

Curious to see if a third team gets involved or if we land more salary (Covington hopefully)

You might have answered your own question. If or when the trade expands to include other players/teams, the trigger'll be pulled; otherwise, this could drag out a little.

Some might say "drag out a lot", but if any of the principals in the trade (CP3, WB) break an ankle on the trampoline, the whole thing could be called off. Not to mention the other signings being held up by the main trade (has Austin Rivers signed, etcetera?)

it will be made official when morey is able to expand the trade to get a second player from another team. hopefully. strong chance tilman doesn't want to raise the roster salary into the tax.

just curious, so this trade cannot be called off? Is it for a fact that Rockets and Thunder already agreed to a 2 team trade, but they are
trying to see if anything if they can expand?

Would Covington put him into tax?

anything can happen until its official.

but i imagine pulling out now would be very damaging to the GMs reputation with agents and other GMs. would make it harder to trade and sign. i think morey and presti have agreed in good faith probably with morey telling presti his intentions of finding +25% salary from a 3rd team since he doesn't like anyone on the thunder.

I'm no Bima but see us at only a couple mil under the tax line. adding anyone more than that would guarantee tax.

Yes but there are different brackets.

Assuming we are sending out an additional $2 Million and taking in an additional $11 Million we would be around $8 or $9 Million in the tax (ball park)

    https://hoopshype.com/2018/10/11/nba-luxury-tax/

We would be in this bracket

Versus if we traded for Iggy while sending out Shump (no tax savings) + minimums we would be in this bracket. Probably about $15 M over the tax.

So according to a chart on this page. Assuming we are all the way to $9 Million over we would pay $14.5 Million in taxes.

So for Covington we would be paying the equivalent (approximation) of {$11M in Salary + $14.5M in Taxes}= $25.5 Million in 2019/20 for his contract (honestly not bad for a superstar role player). Covington is in his prime and would be a long term asset. No need to replace in 20/21 if it works.

For Iggy we would be paying the equivalent (approximation) of [$17M in Salary + $28.75M in Taxes} = $45.75Million in 2019/20 for his contract. An all time great role player who is clearly on the downside. He probably would take off a lot of games. He's expiring in 2020/21 and it's possible he retires. He could also be bought out when no one trades for him.
