I knew a former repo guy once long ago. It sounded like a terrible job. He said he quit because he was sick of people shooting at him for repoing their cars.

Eh. I hope the whole thing gets sorted out and whoever was in the wrong is held accountable and whoever was in the right is made whole.

That being said, tow truck drivers are not sympathetic characters (as a class).

I'm no fan of tow drivers but this seems like a valid repo job. The detective had missed three payments. It's not like the tow driver is hitching up cars parked at McDonalds after 5 minutes.

Facking corrupt and apparently delinquent cops abusing their privilege. Thugs with badges is all they are.

You don’t even have to be towed to dislike tow truck drivers. Just observing the way they drive and ignore every traffic law will do it.

Why even own a car in New York, especially when you get one from work with special parking privileges.

    https://www.newsweek.com/white-secu...ce-officer-uniform-because-he-had-gun-1449428

n Ohio security guard has been charged with aggravated menacing after pulling a gun on a sheriff's deputy at a regional office of the IRS.

Lucas County Sheriff's deputy Alan Gaston was in full uniform with his badge and gun visible when he entered the IRS building at 4 Seagate in Toledo. Gaston, who was on duty, says he stopped by the building on May 31 to get a phone number to call about a letter he received from the IRS.

But when he arrived, Seth Eklund, a guard at 4 Seagate, told Gaston he had to put his gun in his car. Gaston said he couldn't do that, and the conversation escalated until Gaston found himself facing down the end of Eklund's revolver.

"[I was] basically preparing myself to be shot at that moment," said Lucas County Sheriff's deputy Alan Gaston.WTVG
The deputy, who works as a defensive tactics instructor, says he thought the best way to de-escalate the situation was to walk away. In security footage of the incident, Eklund can be seen following Gaston to the elevator with his gun pointed at Gaston's back, "and, it appears, his finger very close to the trigger," reports WTVG Channel 13.

"[I was] basically preparing myself to be shot at that moment," Gaston told the channel. "Bracing for a shot in my back."

Not sure why it's in this thread. Is it because cops assume they can wear their guns anywhere they please? Also I see Newsweek's race angle here but not sure I'm buying it. Bad guys can put on police uniforms to gain the trust of security guards to bring a gun into an IRS building, which wouldn't be good. Maybe the security guard didn't do everything the right way -- can't tell -- but I don't see how a police officer is justified in arguing with a security guard about whether he can bring a gun onto the premises. If he couldn't disarm he should have just left and come back when he was off-duty -- or better yet, google the phone number like a regular person would. Don't see any particular reason to think race mattered in this one.

Race may not matter, but it appears he did what you suggested. He couldn't disarm, so he left

Well it sounds like they argued a bit and escalated a confrontation, but then he had the presence of mind to see he needed to disengage, which is great. I do still feel like there is a hint of police entitlement that the article papers over. But I might be jumping to conclusions. In any case, it seems like a no-brainer that even cops can't bring guns into an IRS building where they are forbidden.
