This is awesome....would love to lock him up for another 2-3 years for the window we have. Would make it hard not being able to use his contract for matching purposes in a trade but I honestly don’t see a major trade target becoming available this season for us to use his current contract for. Extend him and upgrade the 4 and back 5 using Shump and picks + TPMLE. lock it in.

The Eric Gordon situation is the elephant in the room. 1) The Rockets need the production he provides. Shooting, scoring off the bounce, defense in switches. 2) Gordon is a UFA after this season. Rockets can't afford for him to leave and get nothing in value. So the Rockets need to either trade him NOW when his value is at its highest (it gets lower as we get to the trade deadline) OR give him an extension. The key to the extension, is making it *market friendly.* It needs to satisfy EG, but also needs to be seen as a *positive trade asset* should the Rockets pivot in another direction.
Another player interested in returning to a franchise that: Has a stupid cheap owner that opens his mouth too much and will scare players from our franchise Has a nerd GM with no real basketball knowledge who forces a gimmick system that EVERYONE knows will never work. Who also embarrasses himself and the franchise by talking too much, which will assuredly scare off future players. Has a no timeout calling, no adjusting, regular season stat padding loser of a coach who will clearly NEVER win it all. Has a superstar who gets whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Doesn’t share the ball and forces his teammate pawns to stand and wait for when he’s tired to get the ball. Is Eric Gordon insane? Or are the negative Nancy’s around here the most over dramatic babies ever?
that's probably why the extension has been at odds from both sides. EG's contract has been market friendly for awhile now. so understandable why he is likely seeking as much as he can rn when this will be his last big contract. and the rockets of course want to keep him at value and not at the same numbers he is thinking

Next year is very weak free agent class (so hypothetically he could take advantage/cash in?) but I don't know how many teams have money and will they look towards the 2021 class?
No reason to jump into this unless he is willing to extend for a real bargain. Might as well exhaust all avenues for trades first, even if it's as a facilitator for Westbrick. I would give up Gordan and pick(s), as much as I love his game, for a solid PF and SF add. Our biggest problem is defensive rebounding which we have done nothing to solve. People keep looking at our regular season success as a barometer on how good we can be next year. The playoffs are a different animal. Chris Paul's stats are still very good. Playoff Chris Paul is not good because he has lost a step on both offense and defense and there is no reason to believe he is going to revert to even 2017 Chris Paul or even 2018 Chris Paul. If we can't get rid of his albatross contract by lessoning our chances for a title in just 2019, we will have to give up Gordan and picks to be in the hope of increasing our chances in 2019 and beyond, even as Chris ages even more. I would give up this season to get rid of Paul's contract and go for it again in 2020. As the roster stands now, I believe, we will be about the sixth best playoff team, even if we sneak into a top 4 seed.
