Very slight changes to main logo

I don't see much difference - and didn't notice the drop shadow before.

And what is this about?

 

Considering the move to black. I'd be interested to see the classic logo with black tones.

That being said, the new uniforms are out, so we know that the classic text will not be used.

Any photoshoppers out there that can do the following?

Take the below logo, and switch the red for black, then switch the yellow for red. Switch the "Rockets" text to the font of the newly unveiled uniforms. Switch the "Houston text" to the font used in the black uniforms.

All I know is we go to the Finals four times, win two in a row, CHANGE THE LOGO, and have not been back since...

I’ve never liked the newer style of logo but I find it a lot more tolerable like above where they ditched the red “Houston Rockets” text in a similar font to the logo. It’s just overkill - if we have to keep the red R logo - at least make the logo stand on its own and don’t drag the words Houston Rockets down with it.

Unrelated but when they make these minute logo changes - do they go through the facility and update all the logos they already printed/throw out merch with the old logo? Are there true branding guidelines of “out with the old, in with the new” or is a logo update just a new kind of merch to sell?

No NBA team does last minute changes. There is apparently a very strict guideline with timelines on new logos and new uniforms. For some reason, 2 seasons timeline comes into mind, which is about the same time that Tilman took over.

 

Does that mean they really have to replace the R across the building(for instance) because the dropshadow is a little deeper? Seems pretty wasteful if true. I mean if Tillman is looking to save a few dollars, here is a few million I just found in the couch cushions.

 

"James, how will your team respond this offseason to another bitter early exit to your arch rivals?"
"Move the bottom lines on the logo very slightly"

 

um...that logo was not good. Only reason people like it is because of the championships attached. That logo had nothing distinctive about it.
