I took a trip down memory lane over the last week and started listening to some Filter, which led me down into some other Industrial Metal bands like Ministry, Static-X, KMFDM, Rammstein, etc.

Is there anything new out there or is this genre played out/dormant?

What do you like, even if it's old school?

    (btw, Marilyn Manson sucks)

More industrial than industrial metal, but they used to play the heck out of this at #'s.

I've had this one stuck in my head all weekend after watching "Live And Let Die" and going to a tiki bar where my wife had a drink served in a skull shaped glass.

Great read! And I’m only 3 years behind. I’m looking forward to listening to some of the bands mentioned (well, I’ve actually touched on a few of them on my Pandora station)

I wish industrial music would get back to its engineering and manufacturing roots.

Getting yourself even slightly familiarized with Merzbow's sound in this album will reward you when you're placed inside the MRI tube (where you can survive the claustrophobic noise in your ears).

funny thing - I come from the other side of this..and saw it more of a sub genre of industrial music. I cannot help you with the Metal side (I'm sure others on here can) but I Can help from the other side -
For ease of example sake, we'll use Ministry since they progressed over several of the industrial genres over their career.

Industrial - 1980's mix of synth-pop and punk. (think Mid-school Ministry)

Industrial dance - 1980's industrial with a heavier synth pop and dance mix (think early Ministry)

Industrial metal - early 90's industrial fused with metal (listen to 1990's Ministry)

Some bands took Industrial the exact opposite direction and from that came EBM

Funny- I got in trouble with the tech when I was in an MRI because I started singing a song to the beat of the MRI thumping.

I like a lit of the early Manson. Great live album. He should have stopped 10 yrs ago. Wisconsin Death Trip is a great album.

Wasn't allowed to do any neck or throat movement for 40 mins (no oral sound-making, no throat-clearing, not even saliva-swallowing). I just let myself relaxed with the pseudo-Merzbow.

I really am digging Combichrist. At first the vocals were a little weird and disjointed to my ear, more like spoken word to a beat. Then I read that the lead singer is Norwegian and it clicked to me and I made my peace with the sound.
