Once the Rockets got healthy, purged the roster of last summer's mistakes, and atoned in the buy-out market, they were the best team in the league.

    Top 2 in Offensive Rating,
    Top 2 in Defensive Rating,
    Number 1 in net rating,
and best record in NBA (20-5) post All-Star break.

A lot gets lost after a disappoint playoff exit and in the midst of the free agency frenzy but the fact is this team was extremely good down the stretch last year.
Giving that team a full season isn't the worst idea...especially since it almost certainly helps avoid the slow start that put the team in a hole last season.

Remember the Rockets were 11-14 through the first week of December and still ended up just 4 games out of 1st place.
Hard not to think what a difference a stronger start could have made.

Austin Rivers is now one of my all time favorite Rockets not named MCW, Iman Shumpert, James Ennis or Chris Chiozza. I also really like Deyonta Davis. And I'm still holding out hope for Ben McLemore. But other than that Austin Rivers is my favorite.

The team is a year older. Have literally added nothing. They lost all of their defensive coaches. They still wont rebound well. Oh and there are a lot of teams who were right there with us last year that actually made moves to improve.

yeah teams made moves to improve because they were behind. they are the ones who are trying to close the gap. but im also in the boat where i would like the rockets to grab someone to improve as well but thats just something they need to continue doing instead of standing pat. the rockets still have a hole at backup C and a wing would be ideal

Consider the parade of our backup PG in recent years before Austin Riviers:

    13-14 Lin/Brooks/Canaan
    14-15 Prigioni/Canaan
    15-16 Lawson/Goudelock
    16-17 Tyler Ennis/Bobby Brown
    17-18 Bobby Brown/Demetrius Jackson
    18-19 MCW/Shumpert

Say what you want about Lin, that year was the last we had what you could call a decent backup at the PG position with Lin, Brooks and a somewhat promising Canaan. That's 6 years ago!

Played better than I thought he would on the offensive end. However, he's just another washed up point guard just hanging on. We can do better.

I’m glad he resigned, we need his tenacity on the court and in the locker room.

To be fair. Lawson was supposed to be the star and we would have Bev as the backup. But looking back, just smh. It's almost like Morey intentionally pick those guys just to troll us.

Awesome signing …. and with the min.

The player option lets him opt out next offseason and the Rockets will have early bird rights on him , allowing them to offer him the league average salary the following year after which they'd have full bird rights.

Really shocked they were able to keep both House and Rivers.

No big name but they didn't take the huge step back I thought they would this offseason. Still have the BAE if they want it and the rest of the MLE. Haven't done the math to see how much they have left under the apron.

Can still add a rotation piece or two.

Hard to complain about this offseason …. especially compared to last years disaster.
