Pat Riley is cray cray now I guess. He’s giving ion Josh Richardson to have Jimmy Butler lead a team? Yikes. Jimmy Buckets has destroyed locker rooms everywhere he goes. Be mad at DM for being a mediocre GM now. But not for missing on Jimmy. Chasing him in the first place was the problem. Did he not learn anything from the Dwight disaster? Meanwhile... Elton Brand... wow. Right place right time. But making moves. They didn’t want Butler anyway but got Josh richardson for him.
Didn't realize they got Richardson. So they lost Butler and Redick, added one of the most versatile big men in the league and a great "glue guy" in Horford, and got a solid two guard and 3 pt shooter to pair with Simmons? Strong day for Philly.
They grossly, and I mean really grossly overpaid both Harris and Horford. A combined 277 million for two non-all star level players. What are they gonna do when Richardson expires in two seasons from now when they will have Embiid, Simmons, Harris on max's with Horford making 24 mill at 35 years old... teams gonna be a lux tax time bomb that will explode in horrendous fashion.
I think you're underrating both players, but yeah, it is a lot of money and the back half of Horford's contract could easily look like CP3's.
I like Harris a lot, for half of what he got. He simply was in the perfect position at the perfect time. He robbed Philly, and his dad being his agent makes the heist that much more sweet for him and his family, very happy for them, but the dude is only worth half of what he got.
This is why it's so important to acquire stars. Even if they leave you in free agency, you can get quite a haul using sign & trade.
I will never understand why free agents would rush their decision. Clippers might have had a place for him if Kawhi ends up somewhere else. That would be his team too. Heat are really insane for giving the keys to him with no talent on that team.
So at the end of the day Jimmy Butler chose to be the man on a mediocre team over the chance to win an NBA championship as a side kick. OK.
You're worth as much as a team is willing to pay you. If Philly didn't pay him up, he could sign same contract with at least three other teams.
A chance is the operative word. Having Beard/Jimmy/CP3 would've given us a great shot, but it's still kind of hard to say, if they reach the WCF. Also, CP3 still might be on the move or would've been on the move, even us acquiring Jimmy.
