This year's one gonna be likely short anyway for what we know, even if we don't trade for Butler, this is our roster as today: Capela/Hartenstein/Nene (if he's not retiring) PJ/Clark Gordon Harden CP3 If we can resign Rivers it's not going to be for the minimum, MLE would likely be gone for him, House can come back for the minimum, but if he wants more like few months ago or another team offers him more than then minimum, he's gone...unless we match with the MLE, but that would mean Rivers can't be resigned. Then we have only minimum deals to work with, good luck with that, and with MDA playing minimum guys down the stretch.
Man this board can be so ridiculous sometimes. Woj's tweet said we were looking at deals for Capela, Gordon and Tucker individually. Not necessarily that we were sending out all three. Yes, maybe it's possible that we do end up giving up too much. But, if a deal happens, at least wait and see what kind of details and cap gymnastics are done to make it work. Also, Jimmy Butler is a legitimate all star. Top 15, maybe top 10 player. In a league full of great wings, he is one of the better wing defenders in the league. If he comes here it would be because he chooses to come here and then leverages his way to a trade, and we don't even know yet what kind of details the trade would be. And some pepple here are complaining?
Agreed. With GSW out of the picture, the bar has been lowered. No need to take big risks. Trading 2 of these core players (EG, Capela, PJ) for a maxed Butler seems like an unecessary risk with significant downside. Incremental improvements should be enough. We just need to make the right investments with our MLE, BAE, vet mins, plus use our picks and a re-signed Shump as trade assets. One of Gay, Jeff Green, Carroll, Jamychal Green, Beverley will be available with the 4-year MLE (around $40m). Heck, even Mirotic with his poor playoffs performance and injury history may take a 2-year MLE with a player option. Someone like Rivers, Hill, Collison may bite with the BAE. A ton of guys like Diallo, or Stanley Johnson will be waived and may not find anything better than a 1-year vet min. Signing Shump for $11m and packaging him with Nene could get us upto a $20m player that a team may try to get rid of, eg James Johnson, Dragic, Evan Turner or the multiple contracts stupid teams will give and instantly regret this summer. We could trade future picks for redundant guys like Bjelica (Kings need to find time for Giles, Bagley, Barnes). There are better and safer ways to build a championship team than breaking the bank for Butler. I would still go for Butler if it only costs us one core piece or if we get a second player back (eg Mike Scott).
First, consider the fact that Rockets are in a win-now mode. Second, CP3 is 60 y/o and not the 'star' player he was before, but when healthy and motivated, he can still make a significant impact. Third, Harden + CP3 + Role Players = No Championship, this has been proven. So, what's left? Add a third Star or Star-like in the equation with some (not significant) negative impact on the Role Players. I think Morey is correct in adding a third "Star" to the team, mostly because we are old and desperate, what other choice is there? Having said that, losing Gordon AND Tucker will be a huge mistake. Don't care about Capella. Can we clone Siakam?
Butler is a 3 and D SF.....Tucker is replaceable. He is on the tail end of his career. Your opinion is that we should just wait for the scraps of free agency?
Kawhi missed half the season last year. Raptors were so dumb for trading for him Spoiler this is my sarcasm face
he is super clutch. watch it on youtube. although, i am still not sure about how his personalities fit with the rockets.
"It Deserves Its Own Thread" Clever acronym that posters here coined. People use it here as a joking way to suggest that it could've gone in a lot of other threads. It wasn't really special enough for its own thread.
I was in favour of the Paul trade and in favour of Butler trade, just think that Gordon + Capela @ 28m/year > Butler @ 40m/year.
