Woj lately has been pretty Pro-Rockets with a retweet of Morey's daughter's documentary. I believe this was Morey getting with Woj to plant this, overall what sucks is the bottom of the story by Woj. Sixers even if Jimmy decides to leave, would try to use his cap space to get Harris and Reddick back. Overall it seems Philli most likely, Rockets/Clippers Possible but definitely an upgrade over what seemed like a pipedream a few weeks ago

don’t overvalue role players, they are much easier to replace than acquiring a star level player

it’s not a coincidence that the Wolves made the playoffs for the 1st time in 14 years immediately after acquiring Butler, and went right back to the lottery once he was gone

Wolves were also 37-22 with Butler, and 10-13 without him

When Jimmy Butler was on the floor last season, the Wolves scored 114 points per 100 possessions and allowed 105.6 points on defense.

When Jimmy Butler wasn’t on the floor last season, the Wolves scored 107.6 points per 100 possessions and allowed 112.4 on defense. That means they were 4.9 points worse with Butler off the floor.

Jimmy Butler was 4th in RPM just a season ago

The current talks are around both Capela and Gordon specifically, however that doesn't work straight up salary cap wise due to Butler being a BYC player in a S&T situation. Philly doesn't have many more players under contract they could send our way so a 3rd team likely has to be involved to receive one of the two while sending a cheaper player to Philly.

I think the Wolves want to move on from Covington. Maybe they could be a potential 3rd team, but that's purely speculation.

I always hated math but...if his salary would be worth 20M in a trade (literally the same as we would've to match in an opt in trade), why we cannot match that with Gordon/Capela plus Nene and a couple of minimum contracts if necessary? I don't get what i'm missing here @BimaThug

What are you hearing on how realistic this scenario is?

Yeah, I have no idea how any of this works.
So Houston has to send out $17M/$20M or closer to the $32M max?

    4 years, $140M
    Starting salary of $32.7M

    Capela + Nene $20,221,912
    Gordon + Nene $17,883,090
    Capela + Gordon $30,454,282

Bobby Marks: It could not work one-on-one. They'd have to recruit a third team. Butler would be signed to max contract, 4 years $140M. There's a rule called BYC. Butler's $32M would only be worth $20M in a trade. The pieces don't match so that's why you'd need a third team to send out a Clint Capela and Eric Gordon for all the money to match.

    Thanks for this nugget.

It would be amazing if Covington also comes along (i know this is speculation). This would prove to me that Mr. Tightwad is actually willing to spend money on the team.

EDIT: This is the post that blows up this thread.

    Lol full circle.

I think I’d rather have Covington then Butler considering the contracts and hard capping.

    Shump S&T 13 mill + two protected Hou 1st for Covington + 2nd

Jimmy Butler is a vastly superior player to Gordon or Capela.

Butler is one of the 5 best (maybe 2-3) best perimeter/swing defenders in the NBA and he is vastly superior offensive player to either Capela or Gordon.

Adding Jimmy Butler to Harden and Paul is a massive improvement.

So with the rumor that Sixers are interested in Al Horford according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, how about...

    Sixers:
    Al Horford ($25,000,000 [4-years, $100 million])
    Nene Hilario ($3,825,360, expiring)

    Celtics:
    Eric Gordon ($14,057,730)
    Clint Capela ($14,896,552)

    Rockets:
    Jimmy Butler ($32,700,000 [5-years, $189 million])

The salaries should work regardless because Sixers and Celtics have cap space.

I don't think it would be too hard to find a third team that would take Gordon or Capela.

IMO, the primary questions are A) if this is what Jimmy wants, and B) if so, would Philly prefer Gordon or Capela over cap space. It could be complicated, in that exactly how much cap space (if any) they could have also depends on their negotiations with Tobias Harris and JJ Redick. To me, those are the main considerations.
