I'm excited to see how he progresses through the year. The only pitch so far that I've notice that gives him issues is the high fast ball up in the zone. He has a great eye at the plate. It's still really early but I'm optimistic. It's just really awesome to see someone that was in our minor league producing at this level.
The way inside fastball that he turned on Sunday should scare pitchers. They won’t be able to pitch him inside as much, will just have him be able to get closer and closer to the plate to get full extension on outside pitches.
I was just trying to make a joke. I remember some on the board raving about Tucker's swing, how it looked like Ted Williams. Well, he came up and couldn't hit a red barn with a brick bat.
White wasn't a 21 year old putting up 1200 ops in the minors. Also Alvarez just looks like a power hitter.
His swing, which is anything but "natural", has long drawn comparisons to Ted Williams; that did not start here.
As long as Alvarez does gain another 50 pounds, I think we are good. White is pretty much costing a long MLB career because he can't lay off the frappaccinos.
How far off is Alvarez from entering ROTY consideration if he’s not already there? And what is the main competition?
As much as White’s weight is a bad look for him and makes him an easy target, I don’t actually think that is what was causing his struggles and I don’t think losing weight would necessarily make him a much better hitter. I think he just needs/needed consistent ABs. It would probably help him be a better 1B if he lost some weight since it might improve his quickness.
I think his reduced exit velocity and lower launch angle has everything to do with his weight. He just doesn't seem to have the body mobility he had last year. The extra fat seems to be getting in the way.
Did he lose 50 pounds about a month ago? His launch angle and exit velocity are back to 2018 levels, and he's still looks fat to me.
So far, doesn't seem able to hit major league pitching. Not the case with Alvarez who is pounding the ball.
OK? He didn't draw Ted Williams comparisons because of his results; he drew Ted Williams comparisons because he, like Williams, has a rather unorthodox left-handed swing.
Well.... Yordan didn’t hit .400 in his first 30 games but did blast 11 HRs. So, I guess we can be kind and let Alverez slide for only hitting .342.
