I think you’re missing my point. In point 2 you still assume a S&T. I’m talking about clearing max space to sign out right.

Oh I'm sorry, I misunderstood that.

Clearing out for a straight sign is definitely not happening unless it is moving CP3 somehow.

Yeah if you somehow send Chris Paul to Boston in a trade and get back Gordan Hayward then backdoor sign Jimmy Butler... are we a better team overall at that point?

    That wouldn’t clear any space

This is a scenario that has to be on the table and sending Capela to Boston as well is probably a part of the equation too. To sign Deandre Jordan for cheap wouldn't be bad at all.

DeAndre would like to go back to LA too and Fakers won't say no to a cheap player.

He would pick Houston first if he were promised a starting center spot. Now if CP3 ended up in L.A. with Lebron and A.D. that would lure him over there.

The point is we cannot sign him from a free agent perspective. Only way would be to unload Chris PAUL or Gordon, tucker and capela into cap space. Not happening. It is not easy to match on an opt in. It will take Gordon and tucker or Gordon and a bunch of scrums which philly won't take. Either that or a three way where you give up 2 of capella. Gordon, or tucker.
    That's it.

People just don't realize how much salary has to be shed to make that max space for Butler ….

CP3's $38.5m gets you less than half way there. You still have to free up another $17m on top of CP3.

So its CP3 , one of Capela or EG and Nene.

Adding Butler in that case …. doesn't make you better. You've just created holes at other positions.

Then top it off with the fact that once you drop below the cap to sign a player you lose all salary exceptions - No MLE , no BAE , no Room exception.

    Now what about replacing / resigning Rivers , Shumpert , GG , Faried & House ?! ….

There is a ton of smoke to this one.

Even the espn guys are getting in on it.

Personally I think jimmy wanted to be here all along and was disappointed he didn’t end up on the Rockets when he got traded to Philly.

I think him and harden have a real connection.

He said it after the season that this FA is about putting his ppl back we’re they want to be obviously money is important but I think jimmy being from houston and his ppl he has with him being from here. Just seems like they want to come home. Rockets being a real contender with vets which is what jimmy likes doesn’t hurt either.

But we could make it if we need to.

That's why we are in discussions with a max player.

If Jimmy B says he wants to play in Houston, he'll play in Houston.

Cap issues aside I think we are better if we change our system to something a little more akin to GSW. Take Capella and Paul off the team. Add Butler and Hayward and I think we are better. At the very least it will make for an interesting as hell process to watch unfold and be a fan of. I can not imagine a season of CP3 rollling his eyes and more leaks in the media about him being frustrated with Hardens play.
