Because he out shimmyed Steph and we all thought his days as a Point God would last for at least a few more years.
Leslie knew what he was doing, he’s evil laughing looking at his trophies from a comfortable ass couch while reading how upset Tilman is. Brilliant move!
My guess is there was an agreement under the table between CP3 and the Rockets prior to the trade. Basically the Rockets made the trade with the knowledge that they'd have to overpay CP3 in exchange for a window of opportunity at the championship.
I think this is bang on. Compare it to the Toronto/Leonard situation. If the ball bounces the other way its another second round flame out and the future was damaged for a failed attempt at the present. It was a bold all chips in move in. Ball drops in, parade, Ujiri is exec of the year, and well worth it even if Leonard moves on after one year. Compare that to the Rockets. Agreed to 5 year monetary commitment for a 2-3 year window. If Paul's hamstring holds up Rox may be wearing rings right now and Morey is exec of the year. It was an all in, bold, let the owner pay the bill, sort of move. Exactly what us fans clamor for all the time. Unfortunately the ball does not bounce in for us, now its time to pay the price. It was a reasonable gamble, live with the result. Time to move on.
Right now CP3 is a buy low asset. Morey doesn't sell low. CP3 is interested in his legacy. He will have a bounce back year next year. That 3pt% was just inexplicable, no idea why he lost his shot.
I thought CP3 was great in game 6, and hope we keep him. Would be nice if we could get a quality PG to spot him. We need more length on D and shooting on O-- hoping DM can fill those vacancies this off-season.
