I think this would turn out in us giving up a pick (late rounder) for Caserio.. Ian Rap. has already said this morning the possible solution is for Patriots and Texans exchanging picks for Caserio.. Patriots just didn't want to loose him for nothing.

People leave the Pats all the time and they don't accuse the other teams of tampering.

They could simply interview both Caserio and Easterby about what was said.

Can't assume Caserio wants to come here. Hasn't even been interviewed or offered anything.

The Texans will lose a pick or two. And then the Pats will block or Caserio will say he's not interested.

On the one hand, you had a GM (that apparently nobody likes, and did a questionable job) that didn't require the possible loss of draft picks.

On the other hand, you have a potential GM that apparently everybody likes (including his original team, that for some reason didn't feel the need to give him that power), but it could cost you compensation.

This is (not) riveting stuff... but hence why the NFL, in all shapes and forms, still dominates this country's (and this city's) sports landscape...

They only have to prove "more probable than not" that tampering occurred.

I think we all feel like tampering probably did occur right? They didn't hire a search firm. They didn't reach out for permission on any candidates other than two token unemployed Rooney rule candidates that nobody is taking seriously. (which is itself a shame) They aren't interviewing anyone else in the meantime. So they knocked out two Rooney interviews and then have been patiently waiting for Caserio. You could say "well of course, that's their target" and I'd say sure, but UNLESS there has been tampering they can't know whether he'd accept. It would make sense to be conducting a full interview process in the meantime.

I could absolutely see the NFL ruling here that it's "more probably than not" that tampering occurred without any hard evidence.

-Easterby has private conversation with Caserio (can be proven)
-Texans fire their GM 24 hours later
-Texans immediately ask for permission on Caserio
-Other than Caserio, Texans only interview two non-candidates
-Texans don't hire a search firm or take other steps

    Derp.

This probably has a lot to do with the Texans potentially poaching 2 high level execs in the span of 3 months.

Easterby wasn't a high level exec for them, he was a character coach.

Also, he wasn't poached, he was let go

    Likely scenario.

But I would ask, how often do search firms get hired on now a days to pinpoint any personnel candidates in the NFL?

Mayhew isn’t unemployed so it’d be interested to see if they requested permission from the 49ers the same day as Caserio.

The timing is super suspect no doubt. Everything else is pretty circumstantial IMO.

    That's not true.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/03/01/jack-easterby-patriots-leaving-character-coach-robert-kraft

There is the SI article before he joined the Texans.

Here is the Boston Globe article about him leaving:
    https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...ng-patriots/Znf0ex9WtMLOorfUOM1fCN/story.html

He was absolutely a high level exec with them. He was in on every personnel meeting and was considered one of BB's right hand men. (along with Caserio lol)

Easterby wasn’t let go by any means. His contract was up but all reports was that he walked away (so technically not poached either). But Easterby was very highly regarded in the Pats organization. Obviously losing him and then turning around to try and poach Caserio is not sitting well with the Pats. Like you said, they let guys walk all the time.

Was Easterby really a high level executive?

Yes. I know it's cool to hate on the Texans (I run down their process a lot as well) but we can't create an alternate reality where Easterby was some low level chaplain for the Patriots. The articles about him have been very clear; he was one of Belichick's right hand men in NE along with Caserio. He sat in on every personnel meeting and was tasked with helping them identify which players would and wouldn't fit their culture. It was seen as a big loss when he decided to leave.
