Think Gaine was mad Rankin didn't get more run over Kendall Lamm when Henderson went down thus making him look bad for drafting Rankin (as a tackle)? Obviously, O'B has control over who plays, but I could certainly see a scenario where they might butt heads over something like that.

OB is difficult to work with. He admitted as much yesterday. He struggles to communicate with people when they disagree with him. That's why this "alignment" thing is such a big deal. He needs people around him who sees things the way he does and want to execute his plan. When people challenge him or think differently than he does, the relationship quickly "erodes."

They can't. He's under contract; thus, the need to secure New England's permission.

The Patriots are obviously very smart; they may not give a flip is Caserio leaves but realize they can extract a pound of flesh from Houston because they hold the cards. But... if they're really concerned about losing him... that's encouraging, right? They let guys flee all the time so them blocking someone... it says something about him.

According to McClain on 610 right now, they knew there was a chance they wouldn’t land Caserio when they fired Gaine, it was never some backdoor deal that Caserio said he would come so they fired Gaine. Cal thought it was time to move on and thats that really. If you hire someone to evaluate your business, and then they tell you someone as vital as a GM is to a football team isn’t pulling his weight, but then you leave the guy there anyways then it’s on you when the business fails isn’t it?

Also apparently the Patriots are currently trying to give Caserio the McDaniel’s treatment, they had him over at Kraft’s house with BB yesterday, and all that jazz. But he stays is it the end of the world? not even close, McClain just said he has had a handful of NFL execs reach out to him trying to feel out if it’s a legit GM job, or a job only by title and OB would actually be in charge. Derrick Anderson last night said he has talked with at least 15 high ranking NFL personnel guys who are interested in the job here, despite us only giving Gaine 17 months.

Could be true but didn't expect to hear anything else coming out of NRG.

This is kind of meaningless. I mean, if you're some "high-ranking" personnel guy for a mediocre team, wouldn't you be interested in a promotion to a GM job? Tons of non-GMs should be interested in ANY GM job if it were an option.

Also, why are NFL executives reaching out to McClain for info on a job? That seems ... weird.

The Texans GM job is hes if he wants to leave Patriots.. It the Patriots wanted to block it, and could , they would have done as soon as they received the request.. There is some fire to this...

The only way for the Patriots to block it is to prove that it is a lateral move. And there is a report that they are doing that.

If the Pats want to block it, they really need to have their all their ducks in a row and ready to go. Simply stating Caserio is in fact their GM probably wouldn’t go over well knowing what we know about BB and their structure.

But don't think the Pats were ever going to make a decision quicker than they absolutely needed to. Sounds like they’re using this time to try and talk him out of even taking an interview. That’s the much easier and less messier way than blocking him or trying to prove tampering.

Which is crazy cause his resume most definitely does not back that of a man who is talking such a big game.

A few games over .500 over his tenure in Houston and a 1-3 record in the playoffs with no AFC championship games to account for don't bode well for a man with this type of all encompassing power.

exactly. I dont think they will be able to block it, unless they promote him to GM and he accepts the promotion.. Again if they were to block it, they would have done it already.. I think Caserio really wants the job.. and they are trying to convince him otherwise.

Another thing to keep in mind: Caserio is VERY close with Josh McDaniels. Strong chance that after the initial excitement of his interest wears off that McDaniels, BB and Handy could convince him to stick around.

Maybe Texans get a Frank Rich like ordeal where their second choice ends up working really well after their first choice decided to stay w/the Patriots

I would think the Texans can make a strong argument the Patriots have waived this defense by allowing him to interview for other open GM positions.

Rappaport on 610 right now: Patriots right now are fighting this with the league. Saying Caserio is basically the GM of the New England Patriots so they are trying to block. Texans are pushing.
