The Nets are doing great things since they got Marks, but whoever is going to max Irving is making a mistake imo, especially if you don't pair him with two other stars.

Would be funny to see the Knicks being beaten by the Nets in free agency though.

As for the trade, 17th pick to get Prince in his last year of rookie scale is interesting, my guess is Capela might/should net us more.

EDIT: maybe the actual trade is to be looked this way:

Atlanta takes on Crabbe to get the 17th pick, and they trade Prince and future 2nd for a future 1st (lottery protected)...this way, Prince value might be considered a bit lower i think, they basically traded him for a late 1st considering they also traded a 2nd rounder and that the 1st they get is protected.

The thing about Prince is his value is much higher to the casual observer than it is to the Hawks.

He's been an inexcusably lazy defender and unwilling passer. Doesn't seem to like the idea of being a 3&D player, sees himself as a bit of a star.

Trade makes sense to me. Prince is at worst a 3pt shooter off the bench and at best an excellent 3&D guy down the line. Nets will have the advantage of letting the market decide next summer after he has a season on a short leash. Nets are coached well, they won't let him just stat pad.

This is a gamble by the Nets, but given they've rebuilt so wisely, I assume they have already secured someone.

There was absolutely no reason for the Nets to hurry and make this trade so soon and pay such a steep price, unless there are ongoing behind the scenes talks with someone like KD.
Perhaps they are trying to convince him to join Kyrie in Brooklyn.

Thanx for the input. I was watching him the previous season and he seemed to be elite 3+D material, unfortunate to hear that he has become lazy.

Ignore the text at the bottom of the picture. This was just the only picture I could find with both of them in Nets jerseys.

The Hawks must not think much of Prince since in the short term, he’s very likely better than anyone they would have selected 17th overall.

But I get it: a guy you’re not wild about paying for two first rounders. You don’t pass that up if you’re Atlanta.

Great haul for the Hawks. They now own three first rounders (8,10,17) as well as three picks in the top 15 of the 2nd round. Surely they'll looks to package a combination of those to move up or acquire more talent. In the last two years they've drafted two of their starters, who look like foundational pieces, at pick #19.

Also just a guess, but maybe the 17th pick makes the 10th more available.

What's going to be interesting is that all of those teams have made moves and planned on this offseason for at least two years now. But there aren't enough max slot players for all of them to win. Basically one team will likely win and the others will all be losers. The Nets better hope they don't lose after trading away two first round picks today (though I do like Taurean Prince).
