All coaches know they will bounce around cities during their career, but that doesn't mean they don't want at least the potential for 2-3 years in one spot.

And I imagine that all coaches believe that an incoming HC should be able to choose his assistants, so even if the Rockets promise keeping a guy around past this season it wouldn't really be fair to the next HC, so you're creating a less than ideal environment.

I get the approach, not wanting to commit to MDA after falling short this year, but IMO you have to give him the extension and then be prepared to eat that cost if you go in a different direction next year.
