Morey is a genius. How is it the Rockets are the talk of the NBA yet the finals start tonight. You wouldn’t have guessed. I’m assuming These leaks are well timed to take away as much press for a finals the rockets should be participating

Maybe MDA wants to see who will be on the team before signing an extension.

Something’s off here… Our front office does not burn bridges. If I recall correctly, other than McHail, all coaches that have ever worked with Morey; Van Gundy, Adelman, Bickerstaff, were not fired or pushed out. Their contracts ended and they were not resigned. All of the sudden, Morey is firing assistant coaches left and right because the owner wants to keep D’Antoni and he disagrees? Morey is known around the league to be a straight shooter, petulance is not his MO. D’Antoni is the winningest coach Morey’s ever had and the only coach to truly accept his analytics/3’s and layups philosophy. In fact, D’Antoni changed his offense from the 7 seconds or less to isoball because he bought into Morey’s efficient offense doctrine. Why would Morey want to push him out, and in such an atypical manner?

I’m not questioning @cyberx BTW, he’s a legit insider. I just think there’s more to this than what we are all hearing.

“Not getting an extension done with Mike was a fluke. We were going to extend him. It was an accident. I’m still trying to figure out how we didn't get it done. I was positive we were going to be able to. But if I’m going to extend D'Antoni, I expect us to win." - Tilfart, probably

So we keeping a disgruntled employee around to f*** s*** up some more?

Getting really tiresome being a Rockets fan right now.

It doesn't make sense. How can Morey fire assistants over Fertita's objection?

Mike has also been on record, saying this was his last stop. So he prolly wants to coach at least one more year.

Less so than being fired, obviously.

It's a vote of "maybe confidence" ... which, frankly, is where we're at.

He's not disgruntled. It's just business.

Morey has done everything correctly. And Morey is way too smart to defy the owner. That would be like trying to fight the owner of a forum. More buttons, more money - they have the final say.

Didn't Tilman play the same game with Kelvin Sampson?

Morey didn’t fire the assistants; their contracts are up and aren’t being renewed. Same as the others that you mentioned.

When Houston lost Briles at OC, after firing the defensive coordinator D'Onofrio, it didn't make sense to build a coaching staff around Applewhite, who was already on thin ice. So Fertitta and co fired him, ate his contract, and hired Dana Holgorsen. I wonder if he's going to have the same mindset with D'Antoni.
