No no no no..............hold up. Lockhart, TX. Black's BBQ. You can't go wrong with anything. I used to get the beef ribs. But my wife and I will order the brisket and the out-of-this-world make-a-grown-man-cry jalapeno cheese sausage. Oh my God, so good.
It's right by my place but I haven't eaten there. I've been to the Korean fried Chicken place right next door a bunch of times though.
Bro, this is about new joints. Black's has been around almost 100 years. That goes in the other 850,000 page BBQ thread, but it's been mentioned in there several times.
Brisket. A- Well cooked and tasty. Nice smoke ring and bark. Pork Ribs A. Nice sweet and spicy with a just the right kick. Beef Rib A+. Special on the board. Cooked as well as any I’ve ever had. I didn’t try the sauce or any sides. Sorry it was all about the meat.
Will be in Austin for 4th of July. How’s Interstellar vs some of the other big name places there? The shorter line and those pics are intriguing to say the least.
Thanks for that one. I’m not opposed to waiting in the long lines within reason but usually when I’m in Austin it just eats into time for doing other stuff there and rather not spend it with 2-3 hours in a line.
Franklin is worth it, but if you've do it, this would be one of the worst weekends to do it. Lots of these places got popular cause word spreads of good BBQ. I haven't been in Kerlin's in awhile.
I’ve done the La Barbecue line on a weekday and it wasn’t awful. Any sense of how bad Franklin’s is on a weekday? I’ll be in Austin the entire week.
6 years in the restaurant world is 2 lifetimes. The ones you listed have been well known for years. This would be a more appropriate list coming from you.
weekday isn't too terrible. you might be able to time it perfectly and show up at 1pm and get the last batch and not wait too long in line.
Wow. Damn, that looks good! My significant other has become a vegetarian, as is my daughter who's living in town. It makes it difficult to hit a BBQ joint with them. Our son moved to Dallas (yeah, lost his mind - went to school there, met someone, and hasn't moved back, not yet), and he loves BBQ. So I'm not getting out nearly as much as I used to for what I consider the crown jewel of Texas cooking. Gotta start hitting these places!
And here I was waiting with baited breath for your review of Appleby's. I so want to hear about your feelings on any new chicken sandwich from Wendy's.
If Im ever in the Austin area, Ill hit you up, you can adopt me for the weekend and feed me to fill the void left by your children. Will eat til we get the meat sweats.
