The last 5 years Rookie head coaches have been having a tremendous amount of success in their first year.

    Steve Kerr: championship
    Ty Lue: won finals
    Nick Nurse: possible finals birth
    David Blatt: finals appearance
Billy Donavan: WCF birth first year

Should we look to hiring a rookie head coach?

I think having LBJ.... Curry/Thompson/Draymond.... KD/WB.... is the key connection there

Nick Nurse was on the Vipers and won Championships.

The Rockets have a special coach underneath them and they don't notice.

Now Mike DAntoni being a flawed coach it's a issue.

That's too much to ask for. If he can win two games he would have overachieved already.

Steve Kerr is the only won to have maintained that success. Nurse inherited an ECF caliber team who just replaced their best player Derozan with Kawhi Leonard. Billy has had three straight 1st round exits since then. Lue was basically Co-head coach with the GOAT and is currently out of a job and who knows where Blatt is these days.

I think Morey at one time said that his research indicated little value added by a coach to a team. I think that was around time McHale was fired. I'm sure, huge debates ensued.
That's probably why Morey doesn't mind no time outs and drawn plays from MDA.
Coach Stevens and latest game of zones episode comes to mind - tons of talent and smart coach and yet did worse than last year (yes East got better, but Celts still under-performed in regular season and playoffs)

I wouldn't have minded Nick Nurse to be honest.

The reason Nurse was in the Rockets' organization is because they knew he was good and fit in with their philosophy. He also had coached for years overseas. It's not like he was some random guy they threw down there and didn't know he was good. Much of the offensive system they try to employ in Toronto (even under Casey) was developed by Nurse and much of its philosophy was stuff he brought over from RGV. Add Kawhi to that and ... they're on the cusp of possibly making the Finals.

Good thing he's a nurse. Finals not the best time or a place for a birth.
