The only thing the right wing is clinging on to is beating up strawmen of "OPEN BORDER!". They genuinely think that Trump is a genius for exposing liberal hypocrisy. This whole "immigrant dump into sanctuary cities" was never a real policy and was used by Trump for pure political purposes to rile up his base.
And how do you think that system came to be? Brain drain, innovation and technological advancement are all interrelated.
Sure. But, we're still going to need congress to do something. We need appropriations to pay for more judges, so they'll have to put that in the budget and then Trump has to sign for it. And of course he won't want to go along unless he gets something he wants. So we can either keep the status quo of needlessly persecuting refugees or we can make some bipartisan legislation.
a couple of wks ago, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan had testified to US Senators, assuring them that DHS would reunite thousands of migrant families it had separated at the border with the help of a "central database," But that's not the whole story. DHS emails show that Trump admin has "no way to link" separated kids. "In short, no, we do not have any linkages from parents to [children], save for a handful," a Health and Human Services official told a top official at Immigration and Customs Enforcement on June 23, 2018. "We have a list of parent alien numbers but no way to link them to children." In the absence of an effective database, the emails show, officials then began scrambling to fill out a simple spreadsheet with data in hopes of reuniting as many as families as they could. The gaps in the system for tracking separations would result in a months-long effort to reunite nearly 3,000 families separated under the administration's "zero tolerance" policy. Officials had to review all the relevant records manually, a process that continues.
