Danny had one third of Dothrakis and Unsullied hidden in her Starbucks Cup! Show Morey who is the real Wizard.
Well, what can I say... I guess I enjoyed the episode once I turned my brain off. Absolutely awesome visually, crappy storytelling. I suppose that's what GoT has developed into... more show than substance. With that in my mind, I'll lower my expectations to a minimum, that way I might be able to enjoy the final episode. But two things I have to address: I just had to laugh out loud when Euron showed up in the exact same spot as Jaime. Even if Euron knew about the secret passage into the Red Keep, him showing up at the exact same time as Jaime is just beyond ridiculous. Then again, I suppose you could say that that was consistent with how the show portrayed Euron and his teleporting powers. Oh boy. Then we have Arya, again surviving against all odds. I didn't mind the focus on her showing the chaos and mayhem around her, but I certainly want some of her plot armor. That would effectively make me invincible. And then a horse shows up out of nowhere... how convenient. Pathetic. Also, Dany turning mad and killing everyone was not surprising in and of itself as others have already mentioned the hints that were dropped during the course of the show. However, I thought that it was not executed very well at all and because of that was somewhat unconvincing. Then again, I suppose there is something poetic about her executing her father's order ("Burn them all"). Despite all attempts, she became what she sought to destroy. Hmm, maybe I don't dislike her going crazy as much as I had initially thought.
Yeah, with the reaction it is getting you have to wonder if he'll try to change it... I don't think there is anything wrong with all what's happened but it has started to feel like they just want to get it over with.
At this point the ending should just be. The Iron Throne lies in rubble, replaced by the twin bathtubs from Cialis commercials. In the tubs GEORGE R.R MARTIN and HOT PIE are relaxing holding cheeto encrusted hands. The Tubs are surrounded by Scrooge McDuckian piles of money. AMG'S b**** Betta Have My Money plays in background END SERIES
While most of the criticisms have been pointed out, did anybody else LOL when Jon and Greyworm are strolling through the streets and a random Lannister runs up and slaughters a Northerner? I mean, did they not see the Lannister coming? Also, as Jon and Greyworm approach the front line in the city, there's a Lannister killing another man on the ground despite being behind the line of 100 men. Those situations were just silly to me.
In the preview for the final episode, it look's like they are still at King's Landing. Why? Town's a **** hole now.
She was willing to kill those who didn’t bend the knee, slavers, or unjust lords. She was always calculated to a degree with her sentences. This was not that. This was her going full apeshit out of nowhere after the show runners buffed her dragon’s attack, agility, defense and speed.
Why would Dany *choose* to burn the villages, huts, and house surrounding the castle? She spent the majority of her time killing civilians. She could have just went straight for the castle. If there wasn't really a choice and everybody was in the castle it would make sense for her character to go all out and whatever the means, but she is openly burning civilians. This is just such ****ing **** writing. This show has turned into nothing but shock factor and movie theatrics exactly. Huge difference between burning the tarlys --who were an army given the chance to surrender, vs burning civilians and their houses for no reason. it is the antithesis of her character
One of the worst decisions they made was spending 40 minutes repeating the same shot after same shot of civilians being eviscerated by Drogon. They could have used that time for much needed character interaction. So little time left in the show and they wasted half the second to last episode trying to spam us with shots screaming at us that "this is a genocide". We ****ing get it.
[Premium Post] There is no way to clean up all of the open-ended plot lines in a single, final episode. No way. Jon's lineage, Yara Greyjoy, the Children of the Forest, Sam Tarley's horn of winter, Sansa, Arya, Bronn, Tyrion as the lone living Lannister... The best way for the final to go would be to EXTEND THE SHOW for one more season. It's not clear to me why they raced through Seasons 7 and 8. Why not do this right and take the series through season 10 or 11 to maintain the right pace of the show? Surely the answer cannot be financial in nature, as the show is hugely popular. The beauty of the show was always the plotting, the dialogue, and the surprises. These last two seasons the writers seem to think we are all watching for the spectacular battle scenes. Those are great, but those are not what sets the show apart. GOOD DAY
I find it funny so many people actually believe GRRM is gonna finish the books. I'm not gonna make any excuses for the lazy writing on the show, but GRRM clearly has no good idea how to get the characters from where they are now to a good conclusion either. He's just not burdened by a due date to print his lack of ideas. If he did have them, they would have used them. I stand by my belief that I've had since I read the books. The original trilogy was an absolute masterpiece written by a man with a clear vision, which is why they came out rapid fire. The last 2 books, and Winds of Winter are a man without a vision. He knows how the story is gonna end in the big picture, but he's at a loss for details on how the get there for the 800 characters he's introduced.
I appreciated this episode didn't have the gigantic plot holes and inexplicable developments of the past umpteen episodes. Sure, there were some convenient chance meetings and plot armor you'd expect, but nothing severe.
Now that I've had the night to digest the episode, I'll say this: it was wonderful and well written. I loved it. Hear me out. Dany's entire story from the very first episode until the precise moment she hears the bells ringing has been a coin flip in extremely slow motion. After all, Barristan Selmy quoted a previous King in saying that, "Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it will land." Aerys and Viserys' coins clearly landed tails, whereas Rhaegar and Aemon (the blind brother of the Watch) clearly landed heads. Dany's coin kept flipping throughout the entire show, and her true destiny wasn't realized (the coin didn't land) until last night. As her story developed, she showed signs of being both a benevolent ruler and a merciless one. Everyone thought she was one of the good guys while ignoring clues like this, Take away Missandei's beheading, have Jorah survive, or even have Jon keep his secret, and that coin lands heads up and Dany becomes the heroine. But every little or major thing that has happened this season resulted in the destruction we saw last night. And then you consider the dialogue we heard before this episode: "Every time a Targaryen is born the gods flip a coin..." "A Targaryen all alone in the world is a terrible thing." "You're a dragon. Be a dragon." What other outcome could she have had? And for people blaming her turn on bad writing, I think this was supposed to happen. It's what the writers intended. Sure, it was horrible pacing in that everything happened very suddenly (I read a comment where someone said they wished season 7 fleshed out and finished the Night King arc whereas season 8 fleshed out the Dany arc), making it less believable. But Mad Queen Dany was supposed to end up this way. The clues were there all along.
episode 5 was like watching a soap opera parody. going from one extreme to another. dem fanboys/girls are so triggered, they're not thinking straight why do people consume books and movies if it's beyond them to understand what's good or not?
