If we do, that means our young guys really stepped up.

They didn't do "nothing;" they franchised Clowney and signed two likely starting defensive backs. (They also signed a LT, but...) No one should throw a parade, of course - but they weren't idle.

Do the Texans need a running back? It seems fairly obvious *they* don't believe they do. I have no idea if they're right but they made no effort to acquire one...

The Texans had a typical Texans off season.

They reshuffled the deck chairs and are ready to go.

Even the players they are taking a risk on that have upside are under contract for one year, so there is really limited upside.

Just another mediocre offf season for a team that likely will be mediocre.

I can't blame fans for being nonplussed with this offseason.

This is a mediocre team (and that's being complimentary). Guys like Darren Fells, Tashaun Gipson, and Bradley Roby don't exactly telegraph a swing for the fences.

I'm not saying they made a mistake. I'm not plugged in at all to their cap/math situation either. Maybe it wasn't the right market. Maybe they're playing the long game. Who knows.

What I do know is that this coaching staff sucks so much butt that it's reasonable to expect most players we get to languish in mediocrity (there's that word again) and probably move on at the soonest possible moment, likely to flourish elsewhere.

It feels like this team, and the current leadership, bouyed by Watson's natural talent, will forever be spinning its wheels, churning and burning through guys, in a futile attempt to put together a cohesive supporting cast around their star QB.

It feels like it is going to take a significant FA signing and/or phenomenal draft class (like the windfall of 2011) to knock this team out of its perpetual state of whateverness. And that's not a good feeling as a fan.

So if our young guys step up wouldn’t that be our coaches doing a hell of a job coaching them up?

How come you never hear about people being "plussed"?

Remember when everyone (myself included) wanted these other two receivers? ;)

Redskins declined WR Josh Doctson's fifth-year option for 2020.
Vikings declined WR Laquon Treadwell's fifth-year team option for 2020.

    ...

Jaguars sign LBs Ramik Wilson, Najee Goode & D.J. Alexander

I remember. Treadwell before his horrific leg injury was a stud. Docston, who I watched a lot of in college, was a stud and I can't figure out why he never put it together as a pro. The Texans said they wanted speed oppo Hopkins and they picked the right guy.

This is the type of signing the offense needs to do. Young, cheap, healthy, solid, and fits the scheme. Instead we get Kalil and Seantrel plus a bunch of weird projects.

Does this impact compensatory draft picks?

We did need a box type safety. I think we got better on defense this offseason.

People were mad because the texans picked Fuller, because they wanted Josh Doctson and Treadwell, that Fuller was the worst from those three, etc, just like now, with Howard, lets wait to see how the season goes, and then we can blame the Texans.
