We attacked Curry all series long last year and wore him out and we got Rivers now. Curry when guarded by Rivers: 1/3/19: 46 possessions 7/18 38.9% FG 2/10 20% 3PT, 3TOs 2/24/19 (last night): 26 possessions 1/5 20% FG 0/3 0% 3PT, 1TO Total: 72 possessions 8/23 34.8% FG 2/13 15.4% 3PT, 4 TOs
Austin Rivers as a defender on Klay Thompson is very impressive. Klay Thompson quickness on running through picks and a corner 3. I noticed Austin Rivers is unbelievable quick on defense that Rivers really matches Klay Thompson on running through screens. No easy wide open shots on his 3s for Klay. Austin really can shut down some plays for Klay. Even Eric Gordon can matchup well with Klay. Chris Paul can defend Kevin Durant, it's unbelievably true, in short minute stretch. Stephen Curry - Chris Paul, James Harden, Austin Rivers Klay Thompson - Eric Gordon, Austin Rivers Kevin Durant - P.J. Tucker, Chris Paul, Danuel House, Clint Capela Draymond Green let this idiot be wide open on his 3s like Ricky Rubio - Clint Capela, James Harden defending the post with 3 guards (Paul, Rivers, Gordon, Harden, Tucker) Kenneth Faried Andrew Bogut - Clint Capela, Nene
Agree 100%. Shumpert was destroyed by Curry the last time we played against them. He’s a decent defender but in my opinion he’s a little overrated. He’s not one of those guys it locks people down and gets in their face. Plus, he’s a negative on offense and the Rockets can’t afford to have a guy on the court when Harden is double teamed that can’t knock down the three ball.
Nene is unplayable in this series, so Manimal should have plenty of opportunities to shine. We'll perhaps even see the Faried-Capela pairing we saw during that one game at Oracle
Austin Rivers will be guarding Steph if Shumpert is given a chance IF Shumpert is even given a chance, after he fails Austin Rivers will be guarding steph this series.. possibly Gordo.
I live in fear that Shumpert will play, that he will refuse to switch on screens for Steph or Klay, and that as a result, the screeners will repeatedly get uncontested dunks.
Since Shumpert has joined the Rockets, he has been poor all around. Poor shot selection. Poor shooting. Poor decision making on defense. Poor one on one defense. Poor lateral movement and inability to stay in front of anyone. Poor help defense. He got zero significant minutes in the first round mainly because he has been so poor. Mike didnt even rely on him in Game 4 when Capela was sick and Shumpert could have provided depth. And supposedly Shumpert is Mike's guy. If Shumpert gets significant minutes against the Warriors AND if he makes a positive contribution, it will be nothing short of miracle. Because so far there has been no indication that Shumpert is that guy based on what we have seen or the coaches have seen. The best we can expect is maybe put him in the game for a few minutes to give Tucker a breather and let Shumpert hack away at Durant. Might as well bring Joe Johnson back and fantasize about how he can defend Klay Thompson based on how he played 5 years ago. BTW, this is not hating on Shumpert. Its just being realistic based on what has happened so far. I would be ecstatic if he can contribute , because yes, we could use him.
Shump played well on Saturday. Would like to see Faried given minutes too. Need to win rebounding battle to win this series.
The problem is that anytime Faried, Nene, or Capela are in the game, the Warriors plan A1 and A2 are to force PnR switch above the break to iso that player on defense vs Durant or Curry. So far this year, Capela has mostly sucked getting iso'd vs Durant/Curry. Nene has mostly sucked, but not as bad as last year. And Faried has completely sucked....in these siutaions. And, importantly, it takes away the bigs from rebounding when they're stuck 1-on-1 at the top of the 3pt line. This is why the Rockets went small, to take away GS' plan A of attack. Capela thank god had 2 stops in crunch time of the last game. He was much better in the 2017 (remember the Curry strip?). I don't know what happened to Capela's lateral quickness this year and why it has declined. They should only give Faried minutes if Curry and Durant are not on the court, unless you want every play to be Faried hunting for GS, which makes them ultra efficient on offense.
I dont have eyes to see when shamp shoots the ball, because his 2 or 3 points percentages is very low
Shamp makes many mistakes and misses free throws why MDA still gives minutes to him. Warriors matchup just a few points game
