I am seriously going to have to hide behind the seat when Godzilla is getting his monstrous ass kicked. It's almost as bad as watching the Rockets lose a playoff game to the Jazz.

Right, how could you have guessed that the plot is "Godzilla fights a bunch of monsters and wins"? Everyone needs to see this movie.
These movies are never about amazing twists in their plots. They're about the spectacle of balls-out fight scenes between giant monsters in the middle of cities. I don't like 'synopsis' trailers either but like @Buck Turgidson says, it's a must-see. My dark-horse prediction for the ending: Spoiler Godzilla loses at the end of the movie (ala Thanos winning), somehow the 'bad' monsters break the storm clouds surrounding Skull Island and Kong escapes. In the next movie, Kong ends up happening upon Godzilla, they fight, one of them wins, then they clean up against the 'bad' monsters, along with a couple other 'good' monsters, establishing a 'Monster Avengers'. Seems dumb and contrived but this is Hollywood we're talking about.
Spoiler I am pretty sure this is the plot of next movie, except that Kong and Godzilla find out their moms both are named Martha.
