There seems to be three type of Republicans on this issue Classic Republicans that are pissed as hell they lost money Classic Republicans that did not lose money so really don't give a **** about the rest New Republicans who lost money and don't care because they cannot admit they got took Rocket River
Oh they knew, why do you think the republicans lost their house districts in california and new york?
Grand Bargain: No, can't have ~$1 increase for every $10 tax cut because any tax increase is bad. And Obama. MAGA Tax Cut: Yes, raise taxes on ~1 out of every 10 tax payers so the wealthy can have their MAGA tax cuts. Also, have a built-in tax hike for 100% of non-wealthy tax payers down the road.
Just talked to my CPA. Turns out I get a $1 refund for 2018. Seriously! Trump, I am disappoint. More seriously, 2018 was a very unusual year for me, so my CPA says this is a "good thing."
Few Americans think they’re getting a Trump tax cut: NBC/WSJ poll https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/05/few-americans-think-theyre-getting-a-trump-tax-cut-nbcwsj-poll.html
People who believe that throwing more money at wealthy people "creates jobs" definitely still believe it benefits America.
. . . and they all go by the 'eye test' They never have anything concrete to back it up they simply say it seems that way Rocket River
Most of them believe they are upstart small business entrepreneurs. Ask them if they owned a restaurant if the government decreasing their tax burden, would they hire an extra waitress or cook to just stand around and do nothing if the traffic that goes through his or her restaurant(demand) stays the same.
Very clever of the Repubs to let lots of average folks get a bit more in their regular pay checks, but get no refund. Hey, most won't even realize they were taken. Meanwhile slightly higher up the food chain the devotees of the WSJ/ biz press are still waiting to be truckled down on and think it would just work but the tax breaks for the rich (also known as job creators) were not big enough, so another round or two but bigger is required.
Well, I was mostly joking (as evidenced by the meme), and my 2018 was a very different year for me, such that I don't think it will be repeated in my lifetime. Without going TMI, my AGI was a lot higher than usual. That's why my refund was microscopic. The standard deduction has increased significantly; so much so that, for me, it was better to go with that, than itemize (which is what I traditionally have done). This very large standard deduction increase is, I would think, a very good thing for a lot of middle class people. In short, for me, the jury's still out. I don't know that it's clear that the Trump tax cut has been a "scam." For me, next year will tell the tale.
Not just Amazon: 60 big companies paid $0 in taxes under Trump law https://finance.yahoo.com/news/companies-paying-zero-taxes-trump-law-155944124.html
