    Gary Cohn was Trump's National Economic Council director;

he quit his job at the White House in March 2018, it was over Trump’s decision to hit China with tariffs, which
the ex-Goldman Sachs president had insisted was a terrible idea that would only hurt the U.S. and not extract
the concessions from Beijing Trump wanted, or do anything to shrink the trade deficit.

one year later, he has been proven correct.

In a podcast recorded this month with Freakonomics, Cohn tells host Stephen Dubner that he didn’t quit over
the tariffs, per se, but rather because of the totally shady, "rat f ucking" way Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and economic adviser Peter Navarro went about convincing the president to implement them.

I worked at Goldman Sachs for 27 years, it is the most team-oriented place in the world. So I believe in that team-oriented approach.

What happened in the White House is we got to a point, unfortunately, where one or two people decided
that they were going to no longer be part of a process and a debate. And they were going to use a direct connection to the president to set up a meeting and call in C.E.O.s of aluminum companies and steel companies to announce steel tariffs and aluminum tariffs without
    • there being a process and a procedure to set up that meeting,
    • the chief of staff knowing there was a meeting,
    • the Office of Legal Counsel having written an executive order or a memo or anything to sign.
And they created that meeting without anyone knowing it.”

C.E.O.s of aluminum and steel companies were, of course, always going to be in favor of tariffs of 25 percent on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum imports, regardless of the fact that U.S. importers would pay the tax on those products, and not China,

as Ross and Navarro were happy to let Trump assume.

When talking to the left wing media, she blames Trump, when talking to a republican president, she blames unions....

There seems to be a pattern here....if only Trump was an old school "them damn unions" type...

Gee... not rash and not morally bankrupt? That's quite a high bar there... where do you think you will find that Superman?

Seriously, hard to think that we are now at a place where its unrealistic to want someone that doesn't insult late Senators/war heroes and doesn't lie every day...

gary johnson... heh, if all the trump supporters on D&D actually voted for Gary Johnson in 2016 as they claim they did... there would have never been a Mueller investigation.

But accepting the idea that supposition that y'all voted for Johnson... how do you explain trump's 90% republican approvals? And now that you know about trump, why are you going to vote to re-elect him?

Hey, I am baffled by the poll results as yourself. Im not one to whine about voter fraud, but it seems suspicious.

I am not a straight ticket voter. I have not decided who I am voting for.

OK, reasonable. I don't know who I am voting for either (a few good possibilities so far, but no one has completely sold me). And of course, here in Montgomery County its virtually impossible for a straight ticket (unfortunately). Folks near San Antonio have better choices it seems...
