The #1 or #2 to essential to post season success. It not only give us the better seed, but brings a winning culture before the dance starts
1. Better championship odds if we make the Warriors play 2 opponents before us. 2. Better to play Jazz/Spurs/Clippers than Thunder/Blazers. 3. Not much difference among Jazz/Spurs/Clippers. 4. The way our guys play, home court in round 2 is not a big deal. Therefore: Try to win as many games as possible from now until the last 4 or 5, and see where we are. The goal is put ourselves in a position where we can afford to rest guys, lose games, and still finish no lower than 3rd.
Neither. Just normal minutes. No need to sprint too early just for seeding. But you risk getting guys out of sync if you have them sit.
MDA is now exempting practices for some players so they can rest. This allows cagey bball freaks to avg 33+ mpg.
For now seeding takes priority. The Rockets will only be 2.5 back of the top seed if the Rockets take care of business against the Warriors and Charlotte. If the Rockets get within 2.5 games, there is a real chance that they get the #2 or possibly the #1 seed. If the Rockets lose a couple games, then you can rest Harden a bit. On a side note, I would not count on the Rockets resting much. Mike D'Antoni really believes that resting towards the end of the year cost the Rockets their edge.
We slept the entire first half of the season. If anyone needs to rest and fix his ailments it is James Harden.
Get a seed that is high enough so voters cannot BS Harden out of his deserved MVP, then rest. 2/3 won't matte as much as 3/4.
I'm not sure how anyone can be a Rocket fan that went through last year... AND prior years... and not think "hey, let's try a bit more rest". If the Rockets can't beat DEN as a road team, or OKC or Portland... they sure as heck wouldn't be able to do it to GSW. Does that mean you want a lower seed? Of course not. But CP3 has never played as many playoff games as he did last year - not that 15 is a lot. And Harden has a reputation for being "too tired" to put in consistent playoff performances, especially against good teams in the playoffs. Also, if it isn't obvious that Harden is either (i) tired already, or (ii) nursing minor injuries, or (iii) both... you haven't been watching post ASB basketball. Rockets still winning which is great. NM the fact that there is a LEGITIMATE and VERY SOLID argument to be made for actually preferring the #4 seed. Can't beat GSW without healthy CP3 and Harden. Get past them and CP3 goes down, you still have a shot to win a ring. There's 1 downside to rest, and that's chemistry and flow. But they should have had that last night, and didn't.
Other than Harden and Tucker, no one should need rest. Plenty of dnps this year already for most the team. And we already don’t practice. I say try to get Tucker and Harden 2 games off somewhere. Everyone else can play.
How is this even a question?? We don't have a guaranteed playoff berth yet. Until then, play every damn game.
I think we had this same argument last year and the rest guys were proven right. Rockets were left with 6 playable guys by games 6 and 7 of WCF
what did rest have to do with it? they were left with 6 playable guys because the others were weeded out as unplayable.
Good point. It is not just game 7, it is matchup. Putting a fight for 1 seed is not a sure thing. It could be 2 or 3 seed.
